About 25% of the trees on my place are ash. And they're all dead. I have enough standing firewood for the next five years at least. Lucky for me I have a cousin with a Cat stump grinder. Gerrit

You want to get those ash trees on the ground as soon as you can. As the upper limbs die, the trees become much more dangerous to fell.

I have a splitter like his, it runs off the hyd. on the tractor. It has separate controls on the splitter, I've seen some that you have to have someone on the tractor running the controls. Mine has the cyl. pushing away from the tractor which gives more room to move around.

i built this last fall using a charlyn pump off the pto . that way you can stand there and operate the hydraulic's without any added plumbing. i have a gauge on it and it stalls out at around 1100 psi on them big wet blocks with a 4 inch cyl.

ha, if i was i sure would not need to work so hard keeping the home fires burning.

Been at it. Lots of widow-makers hung up in the treetops, keeping an eye on them. Had to drop one tree onto another to dislodge a large branch that wouldnt break free. It worked but Im sure a pro would take a dim view of some of my methods. Quite a few are toppling on their own in high winds. Was happening so often sometimes I witnessed them falling over. Ill have a lot more lawn when theyre all cleared out. Would rather have the trees. Gerrit

I have a splitter that runs on the tractor hydraulics, not all of my tractors have much in the way of hydraulics and Ive been thinking of adapting it to run on a PTO pump or something else to make it more versatile.

One dead apple tree and one dead ash tree. Ash tree over 70 tall and close to the house. It was dying from the borers and when big limbs started to drop out it was time to bring it down. About 3 in diameter at the base. Very sad. There are dozens of dead Ash trees at moms place. Way too many to burn before they rot. Very sad.
