Say my brother had a 292 in a C-50 chevy Truck,it was a old state highway truck,I drove it hauling silage most every year, from the dump box,he did make the oil pan about 4 quarts deeper,it only had a 4 speed, so it had to use the RPM to get anything done, but it never missed a beat, and not cold blooded, a tough engine !!!!!

Yep, they were tough engines!

Lots of bottom end torque. They were built to endure lots of heavy pulling, not so much for quick high RPM, which makes it not real desirable for a car engine.

Yep,i can believe that, the C, And C2 Gleaner, 403 International combines, only used a 262 cubic inch , they pulled a 4 row head nicely!

I have a 69 C50 with 292, I think Dad bought it in 74, have used it ever since. Fourteen foot grain box every Year has hauled thousands of bushels. Pulled the bumper off a couple of times but keeps going. Just had the starter go out, pull started it full in the field and got it home and unloaded, missed the last two rounds but will be ready to go next year. starter is on the floor now.

Chevy and GMC 6 cylinders are fine robust engines. Except the 216 (which is OK but splash oiled) my GMC PU has the 270 high deck engine. the straight 305 was in that same line. The 292 was copied by Toyota for land Cruisers, and was nearly a part swap copy. Jim

The Toyota Land Cruiser engine was a licensed and improved copy of the 235 Stovebolt 6 series, not the 292.

As a teen I had the opportunity to hear a 292 with a split manifold and dual Smitty glass packs.....in a 40-50's chevy P/U. Bad sounding critter and winding out in #2 on the tree was music for all within hearing distance.
