Last day of auger duty

Finished up harvest today. Thought I'd take a pic of my auger tractor, my 880 Oliver, as it put up the last loads in the bin. Other than needing a block heater and a battery charger to start on these cold mornings, it was a great auger tractor.

The SC is a '45. I bought it from a guy in Wisconsin who was going to restore it as a father-son project but they lost interest. I learned to drive on an SC 60+ years ago so I enjoyed fixing it up.

Usually only gets driven down the lane to the river and back, so it was nice to hear it bark a little. Definitely burned out the cobwebs.

Yea, it's mechanical drive. You are right about older tractors hydraulics not able to handle the hydraulic drives. In fact, the Oliver hydraulics won't even raise the auger. I have to set it up with another tractor, then put the Oliver on to run it to free up my loader tractor for other jobs. And the old Case doesn't even have hydraulics. I don't need to use the old tractors but it's fun to make them work once in a while. Kinda like us old (mostly) retired guys. A little work once in a while is good for us. lol

Nice White combine. What model is it? My neighbor had an older White (one of the old Oliver combines painted red) years ago. Other than that one I don't remember seeing any in this neck of the woods. And we had several pretty good Oliver/White dealers in the area. Had a quite a few Massey and Gleaner combines before Deere and Case IH took over.

Me too!!! Make a note - don't tell anyone when you plan to retire. I've combined over 1200 acres this fall - only 240 of my own and only 500 with my combine. Everybody thinks since I'm retired I can help them. Gotta go help my brother finish up today. But he helped me a couple days ago so that's fair. Not complaining though. I can always say no. And I'm having fun. Life is good!

Growing up our Super 88 ruled the neighborhood. What a powerhouse! Last year I hooked the 880 up to a 750 bushel wagon to pull it out of the field and could hardly move it on level ground. Hit a little slope and the wagon took over. Went and got a bigger tractor.

Life is good!!--Got the ol 8820 out for the first time in 3 years and helped my son and his 9600 combine a little over 500 acres-other than 2 auger teeth and 15 reel teeth had clear sailing--ADB--have a safe one and some day our paths wiil meet---Tee

The neighbor to the west of us had combined his beans on a 160 acre field and then we got all that wind which made drifts of bean leaves on our side of the fence-I had cut 2 passes so the leaves drifted into the standing beans also-along the fence they were 2 foot deep and in the standing beans they were a foot--That is where I lost my teeth--
