Hi, My old backhoe doesn't go backwards. Problem is intermittent. We've changed the reverser oil and cleaned the screen. Local mechanic thinks its the reverser solenoid. Trouble is this is the early machine and the replacement part from Deere (AT163601) sells for $7000+. Wondering if anyone has any ideas or good leads on a reliable aftermarket provider. Thanks! Joe

This could be as simple as reverser control valve linkage adjustment. Inspect the linkage and try working the control valve lever without linkage attached to confirm operation. Be careful!!
Don't get run over when you switch the lever! Shift trans into neutral!

You could try Aftermarket parts in Williamston MI and see if they have anything that works. Might or probably is from the land of almost right.

If your backhoe has the electric shift control then your
solenoid is bad. Its about 700 dollars and is easy to
change. Its located on the left side of the
transmission. Have replaced several and solved the
problem. Good luck

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. This is an older 310D with a reverser solenoid manifold that has been discontinued. Deere Part number is AT163601. Narrowed problem down to the coil that controls reverse. Deere doesn't sell that part except as part of $7K manifold assembly. So far no luck finding an aftermarket replacement. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Thanks,
Joe
