Case Disker

I know diskers or one way disks are a bit of a novelty to you guys in the South but they used to be one of the main types of seeding equipment here when I was a kid growing up in the sixties. My dad bought this Case 12 foot model 900 in the early 1960s from the local Case dealer and used it to seed crops and work summerfallow for the next decade. I was going to demonstrate it a bit yesterday but ran into a problem with the hydraulic hoses being too short on the cylinder I was going to use. So its just a walk around video pointing out some of the details. Picture from 1973.

Brochure of the Case model. JD made some smaller size disk seeders in 8 and 10 disk that could be pulled with an 8N Ford or an H farmall. I have planted winter grazing oats behind haygrazer in Texas with an 8 disk. Worked good in light rocky soils.

I saw a few down in southern KS around Anthony and Kiowa And west of there some. They didn't have a seeder on them though just the Oneway.

Depends on what you mean when you state South. Down South of you in N Texas I still remember assembling, demonstrating & selling new one-ways, diskers aka disk tillers. JD named some of their disk tillers Surflexs.

Here in Ohio had an old JD unit we bought for using after brush was buldosed. This was pipelind cleared years before and neglected so roots. Used a few years on that yntill a moldboard would work. Never saw a seeder on one. I think I only saw perhaps a couple more units. This was back in 80's. Clutch quit working and sold it New owner was going to put hydrolic lift on. Dont knowif he ever did. Worked very nice getting sowbean ground ready for planting. All befor no tilling.

Interesting. I figured the Northern states would know diskers well enough but surprised they are known as far down as Texas. I've also got a fifties vintage JD surflex. Made a video or two of it working over the years. It belonged to my uncle.

Disk tillers with a seeder box on them used to be the way farmers planted grain in the fall around here till the late 1950's. Gene Davis Tennille, Ga.

It was rare to see a disker without a seeding attachment here. Glad you enjoyed the Mercury videos. I sure enjoy driving it. Kind of surprising how much interest there is in this latest disker video. Over 3100 views in the 24 hours its been on the channel.
