Hello

I bought this m a little over a week and Im starting to take it apart to make a pulling tractor out of it . I bought it knowing the motor was
stuck, but I tried to drain the oil no oil and I took the valve cover off and nothing but rust and rust will flake off. Im going to take the head off
tomorrow and see what it look like. And plus there was no water in the radiator also . I took the oil fill out and looked down the hole it was
rust too. I just want to know if this motor can rebuild or do I need look for a replacement ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tim

Continue taking it apart. The only things that would prevent a rebuild would be cracks, or spun main bearing damage in the block. It may need machine shop analysis on the head and block for cracks. Cracks behind the cylinder sleeves are possible. Jim

well if you got the money , someone has the time. anything can be rebuilt if there is something to work with. and if you asked if it was worth doing the rebuild on it the answer would be NO. it could cost a few thousand dollars. you can buy a used running one for 500.00. your call.

and if you think i am nuts... i just talked to a guy that is redoing a 340 diesel engine and it cost him over 2000.00 to get the head done on that little 4 cyl engine. he will have about 5000.00 in the engine alone by the time he is done. crank is redone cam is redone new sleeves , new pistons. so basically a new engine when all done. he came here yesterday and got the timing gears from me out of a 282 from one of my parts 660's. so thats what i mean you got the money someone will have the time to do the job.

Well, with the words (pulling tractor) being used in your story, I presume this isn't a money making project you have in mind. And that's good, because it likely isn't going to turn out to be that, if that's what you have in mind.

Pulling tractor entails that you will likely be removing pistons, rods, and sleeves, and not putting them back in upon rebuild. Assuming you will be wanting to put in over bored pistons and sleeves and whatever else.
So, bottom line, you need to dis-assemble and make sure the block and the head are good. If they are good, then yes, you can rebuild it, and make it into what you are wanting to do.

The only downside is, with an engine as rusty (and I presume locked up) as yours sounds, it's going to take some time, effort, and patience to get this thing completely dis-assembled. I hope you are not in no big hurry. Because it's going to take some time.
