Unhitch The Combine

Its been a month since I htched up to the combine to do wheat, oats and canola. Finished the last bushel today. A long stretch of time for just under 700 acres
but we did have a few weather delays. Lost a part day here and there with some necessary repairs. Did get the necessary parts to get the two speed working again
on the IH Loadstar. Its a good thing my brother is a heavy duty mechanic, my nephew can take time of work to do the trucking and my SIL supplies us with supper.
Harvest is definitely a family affair here.

I hate to sound dumb But I am. Why do they use a pick up header why not use a direct cut header. It looks like you would knock a lot of grain off cutting and wind rowing.

Direct cutting is not really a viable option on a pull type as there is not room for a wide enough header to fit. This model 212 header is the same as the self propelleds use and with that I can pick up my 21 foot swath. Or if its a light crop my swather can lay two swaths side by side and put through 42 feet at a pass. Now that is fast!

Nice to see how other people do things. Are there any old Deere 65,96 or 106 pull type combines setting in your area? I always thought a 65 or 96 would be neat to go with my 95 and 105. Tom

Used to be 65 and 96 John Deeres everywhere here but scrap iron prices have thinned the herd quite a bit.

Tom .... our tractor club farms about 90 acres of land at two different sites ..... photo below of one of our two 95's, one a squareback and the other a roundback. Not sure which one is in the photo. Feed barley is the crop of choice plus a few acres of oats that we put through the binder and store for our threshing bee the next summer. Lotsa fun and it funds everything we do, a lot of the work is done by members over 70.

Good to see you finished. I like watching your videos and posts here. I'm in Wisconsin, and I enjoy seeing how much different the growing season is in your neighborhood than here!

Thanks. Good to know. I'd guess Wisconsin is a little different in crops and seasons than Sask. too. Hoping to finish cleaning up the combine and getting it parked in the shed before showers hit tonight.
