Rough day mowing

One of my mowing jobs is on hilly soft sandy ground. The owner got a notice from the fire dept to cut the weeds. I have been doing this job for a lot of
years. The ground was extra soft this year, because of less rain. I could only mow going down hill. I didn't have the traction in the soft ground mowing up hill.
If my flail mower got too close to the dirt the blades would suck it down into the ground. Taking the edge off the 94 blades I had recently sharpened.
Any way the job is done for another year. If all my jobs were like this one, I would have been out of business years ago. I paid 6.69.9 for my truck gas today. Stan

Hey Chief, You say you use a flail mower, what brand? I use a Mott brand but just for personal use, and not commercial. I was wondering how you sharpen your blades and how often.

My mower is a Dandl. It is not being made anymore. About the only thing I will not be able to get is a gear box. Bearings, and knives are all available as after market items. What I do to sharpen my blades is back the mower over a three ft retaining wall. I support the mower. get a chair and sit so I can reach under the mower, using a 4 inch grinder with a coarse wheel, and sharpen each blade. It takes about an hour. I sharpen blades 2-3 times a year, when the mower isn't cutting clean. Stan

That's some high priced gas. Yesterday,I bought gas (10% Corn Juice) for $322.9.
Eastern Kansas.

I read a few businesses are leaving California and Chicago.
Are you going to move your business to another state?
One article said California gas is a special blend.
What is special about California gas?

I will probably stay in California to the end. I really don't know about the gas blends. Some gas is for summer, some is for winter. Just another way to take advantage of the people I guess. Stan

Yesterday gas was $3.99-9 withone station at $401.99 Don't know today as I haven't been out. 10 days before all stations were $3.39-9. Northewst Ohio.
