What are these used for?

I found these 2 items in a back shed that stored items from my father's estate. They were stored there since 1997 and forgotten until I started to do some clean up.They fold up to be very compact. I do not know what they are or what used for. Maybe someone on YT has an idea.

Exactly that. Nice to have with enough space. The quilt lays over then and across the quilter's lap. Stich in a ditch. Jim

I trust youre referring to the placement of the sewed stitch in relation to the seam of the pattern. The technique of quilting off a frame draped on a lap could be more aptly referred to as stitch and b!+H, but that usually requires a couple of quilters in the room.

They are whats left of a clothes drying rack. Should be several tiers tall, folds flat for storage. Used one many times.

Not seen exactly that, but does remind me of a Simple quilting frame setup. Most quilting frames were set to clamp and stretch the material some on ridged frames, but
this would be more of a rack to hold the fabric over your chair as you worked on some details?

Yep, quilting rack. A piece of material was
staple to 2 rond poles about 1.5 inch. What
you were quilting was pinned to the
material. The half round cuts is where the
poles sat. That piece is upside down. You
rolled one of the poles as you moved along.
The different slots is to keep the material
taut. Mother in law had 2 of them.

It is a quilting Needle technique that uses a sharp needle and the stiches are placed into the crease made by the pattern. (Kinda esoteric terminology) my wife teaches Quilting, and I use CAD to design patterns and seam allowances, but don't Quilt personally. Jim
