Roosamaster Problem.

1965 G707 Minneapolis Moline tractor which has a roosamaster injection pump on it. I take this tractor to some vintage tractor pulls and do demo pulls only , because of the intake and exhaust system modifications. Tractor starts really good and will rev up to the rpm its been set at (2000 ) rpm. Injection pump and injectors where rebuilt about 10 hours ago but a couple years ago. Problem is it wont smoke at all any more. Used to put on a real show with smoke and of course some noise as well. Seems to have lost a bunch of power as well. Took the top off and cant see any thing wrong but Im not to familiar with the roosamaster pump. Any ideas. Perhaps dieseltech will read this post. Thanks for now.

Pump MIGHT have worn shoes/rollers and cam ring, but check the simple things first. Fuel starvation will cause the same trouble. How does fuel flow AT the filter base? Then check it at injection pump INLET. Also if NAPA/WIX filters are used MAKE SURE there is no extra O ring in the filter top OUTER groove. Thats the inlet passage and must not be blocked.

Hi dieseltech. It was supposedly rebuilt 10 or so hours ago. There is a good even stream of fuel at the inlet to the pump and I used agco fuel filters and they are brand new. Thats why Im kind of confused about what has gone wrong because it happened quick. Thanks for your help.

I havent tried to start it when hot. Its starts good cold no ether needed. I will work it and get it up to temp and try starting it. Might be a couple days before I can. I will keep you in the loop. Thank you for your help.

Hi Dieseltech. Had an opportunity to run my G707 with the Rosa master pump on it and I ran it up to operating temperature, shut it off and it seems to start okay warmed up. Cranked for two to three seconds and it was running. Tried it at several different positions on the throttle lever and it started the same. I guess the next step is to take it off and get it checked out. If it is a stuck rotor plunger how hard is that to repair or fix. Thanks so much for your help so far.

Sounds like plain old common fuel flow obstruction. Pump problems rarely come on suddenly. Your new filter looks like the kind that is known to leave a gasket behind when changed causing a near blockage.

I'm fairly sure the AGCO filters have the tops with multiple holes, not just the slots around the perimeter as the WIX type has, so I doubt there is a gasket problem with his.

I cant remember about the shape or amount of holes in the filter but I think your right. I will pull the filters off just in case and check because it is easy to do. Thank you
