Case 188 diesel engine rebuild

Hi, when rebuilding this 4-cylinder diesel in frame without having the injection pump removed or altered from the machine that was running but needed new components and a new head what is the timing procedure and fuel priming procedure when reassembling. I'm installing new Pistons at this point and it seems everything else is in working order. My manual is so in depth detailed that it's almost Overkill for my situation because I did not remove the injector pump...
Thanks Matt

Nothing as far as timing. Bleed the fuel system and start it up. Make sure you warm it up good then re-torque the head while warm. When doing the re-torque loosen the nuts some then re-tighten. If you don't loosen them first they won't torque properly. After that warm it up again and then set the valves again. And since the heads were worked on you should reset the valves after 10 hours or so.

Ok, so re install old push rods in same holes they came from and reassemble rocker arm assembly.im guessing I'll need to set gap with thickness gauge on each of 8 valves before attempting to start for first time?
Any other tips for reassembling top end?
Thanks Matt

Yes, you need to set them according to spec with a feeler gage. I don't know what that spec is on those. Should be about the same as a y other engine otherwise. I don't know much about those small case engines, you should ask on the case page below.

if the pump has not been removed you have less to do. but rechecking the timing is a very good idea, unless you know for a fact it is dead on! your manual goes through all procedures anyhow . sounds like its your first engine job to me.
