How to Clean an Injector Pump

Is there a way to clean a diesel injector pump without removing and dismantling? Said injector pump is on a Tafe 45di
tractor. It has a Simpson s325 diesel engine and a Bosch 400 030 644 injector pump. The Massey Ferguson 1205 with the
same Simpson s325 engine is much the same as the Tafe 45di, both were made by Tafe of India. . Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Seafoam works well on gasoline engines, and claims to work on diesel engines too, worth a try. Only cost about $10 compared to ? for a pump rebuild. Only used as directed, more is not better!

Diesel injection pumps are designed to operate with a clean fuel supply delivered to them. That is why you have a primary and secondary ..two.. filters. In most cases there was no provision to drain or flush them. So when it come to your question the answer is no. What is the reason or problem that you want to clean or flush it?

Short answer, no. Longer answer, IMHO This is a case of, IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, CALL A PROFESSIONAL! Take your pump or vehicle to a shop that specializes in injection pumps. Injection pumps are very close tolerance devices that have specific lubrication needs. I would not and do not put anything in my diesels except what my professional diesel mechanics recommend. The test diesel used in the repair facilities is many time more pure than you will find at the pumps.

The real question everyone has is WHY ? WHY do you THINK yuou need to clean your injection pump ? Cleaning your injector is an accepted practice but cleaning the pump.. What are you experiencing that would bring you to want to CLEAN the pump.?

I suppose you could flush one out if it was taken off and tipped around as fuel was repeatedly poured in and dumped out time and again though if you are in need of that it is probably to late for the pump and needs more than you can do for it. then again after watching some of the videos of smelting iron and aluminum over there maybe it doesn't matter even. You will probably be money ahead to send it out for work .

If the pump is NOT engine oiled, there's a good chance the control rack and plunger gear segments have SEVERE rust damage along with one or mor stuck plungers. The last two Tafe pumps I worked on years ago both were like that. Any cleaning attempt is a waste of time.

Your best bet is to call Dieseltech (Rich) and talk to him. He is very knowledgeable, and friendly. He will tell you what you should hear on any diesel pump. He has worked on them for many years and has the tools and equipment to do a professional job.

Unfortunately the only "cleaning" you can do without taking it off is with a pan with a little bit of gasoline in it and a toothbrush.

What kind of "cleaning" do you intend to do? What makes you think it needs "cleaning?"

I will try to answer everyone with this post. My wife past away, I walked away from everything including the tractor. That said, the tractor has been sitting. I drained the tank, replaced the fuel filters, and cleaned everything including the fuel injectors. I put new diesel in the tank and pumped the air out of the system using the hand pump. No start. I then replaced the thermostat intake manifold heater plug. It hit a couple times, but no start. I would have already taken it to a diesel shop if it was easily gotten out from where it is located. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

how long was it sitting is an important bit of info. and makes it a big deal for advise. like one month, one year. 5 years. plays a big role. does it smoke when craanking it? if so thats good . if not its not bleed or you have pump troubles. thats what we need to know.

The tractor has less than a 1000 hours on it but has been sitting for 5 years. The last time I used the tractor it started and ran good. At the present time it doesn't smoke when I crank it. Like you said, it is a bleeding problem or pump troubles. Thanks!

The injector pump is a Bosch 400 030 644, I don't know if it is engine oiled or not. It could very well have severe rust damage, it has been sitting for 5 years. You have any idea what it would cost to have it repaired after I getting it to a diesel repair place? Thanks for the information.

When you crack a line to one of the injectors do you get pulses of fuel while cranking? If not repeat the prime procedure.

If all you did was operate the hand pump, you only half bled the system. You also need to bleed the air out of the lines up to the injectors.

If I understood Dieseltech correctly, the only solution to a badly rusted pump, is a new pump.
