Champ forklift

(quoted from post at 09:58:28 10/02/22) I need info on clutch for a Champ HI 350 fork lift.

Most older forklifts used ''off the shelf'' components, is there a clutch rebuilding shop in your area?

They should be able to rebuild yours or exchange the parts and also answer any questions you might have about installation/setup.

My local transmission shop can replace the starter ring, regrind
the flywheel, rebuild the pressure plate and clutch.

What is it powered by? Different power units used different drive systems. If it has the 6 cylinder Chrysler it will
have the old fluid drive units used in Chrysler,Dodge,Plymouth,DeSoto, etc. It is just a clutch bolted on to the back
of a torque converter.I did one that lost the pilot bushing. It rattled and was hard to get into gear.I have no idea
what the diesel units used.

It is Chrysler powered. I wonder how the old slush box was filled with oil. I bet that is it because when it is slipping I detect no burning smell nor smell when I crawled under machine. Thank you so much.

Do some searching in the Mopar forums to find more about the fluid drive setups.I probably used the wrong
terminology by calling it a torque converter, but that is what it looks like.It may really just be a viscous
coupling.I believe there is a plug in it that you use to top off the oil.Once you put that thing in gear, you let the
clutch out and don't touch it again until you need to change gears.Creeping up to something you just use the
brake, you can come to a complete stop at an idle with your foot off the clutch. If you hit the throttle it will fetch
up and overcome the brakes.Very smooth operation.
