What should I do? Connecting head to Uni

I bought this feederhouse and head from a guy. He said he had never used it because he was wide row. I see now that no one has used it because there is no way to drive the head. Someone did start adapting it but never finished. The head has a 24 tooth sprocket on it, and I need to put a sprocket on the driver.

Should I go with a second 24 tooth, put on a smaller one? A larger one? I m leaning toward using the same so that the feederhouse and head run the same speed.

I dont know anything about Uni-System, but on
anything I wouldnt think you would want the head
running faster than the feeder. If possible, set up
your sprockets so they can be easily changed, to
experiment with different speeds. I would start at
1:1, and go down from there.

It's been 30 plus years since I had anything to do with those and have probably for got as much as I knew now. Let me look out on ours and see what was there and how and get back to you later.

How about measure the bottom diameter of that coupler and the bottom diameter of a sprocket and put on a sprocket of that size. looks like maybe an 18 tooth. If you think you are going to be travelling slow
with that4 row in todays corn I would start with smaller sprocket rather then larger.

These couplers are harder than a coffin nail! We tried to drill them out with a milling machine, and gave up. So instead the bolts are just up against them. We will see what equal sized sprocket does for header speed.

Now I gotta take off all the chains and limber them up. I am guessing the header was barely used, but it sat for decades.
