o, you would use non-grounded side of battery, but....unless you have verified that points are making & breaking the electrical circuit, you are wasting your time.
 
I think you look closely at the coil, it should have a + and -.
I think the + side should have a wire going to the points and condenser. Don't jump that wire.
To jump it you should run a wire to the - side of coil to the - of the battery.

To play it safe rig a wire with a 10 amp fuse.
It's better to flow a fuse than fry the points..

No.

Best case, you will do nothing at all. Worst case you will create a short circuit.

Verify you have a positive ground system first. The + post on the battery will be connected to the frame of the tractor at the other end of the cable.

Once verified, you run your jumper wire from the - post of the battery to the terminal on the coil that has a wire that goes back toward the ignition switch. This wire will NOT be connected to the distributor, and may simply disappear into a bundle of wires up underneath the hood.

If the tractor is wired properly it will be the - terminal on the coil.
