Why do we torture ourselves with crappy seats???

Just about every tractor I have ever bought had a bad seat in it. It is the single most used part of the tractor and single biggest feature that determines how you are gonna feel during and after the job.

But I am guilty too. We suffered with junk seats on the gator for years, but we also barely use it. Today that changes. I went to the Deere store and asked about seats. They had the Deere $160 seat and the Talon $130 seat. Wifey wanted yellow seats even though it is a trail gator and came with black seats. I do not care either way.

Which one is the lower cost one?

I don't. Every tractor and riding mower I have has had the seat modified or replaced, some several times looking for the best
solution. I live on clay soil and have a lot of clump grass. If you are going to do anything with any speed above a crawl, you have to
make adjustments.

I have 2 JD mowers. I have problems with the yellow seats
cracking. I bought a new yellow JD seat. Didn't take long before
the seat cracked too.

I was going to buy a used gator, seats were cracked.

Does anyone have a yellow JD seat that doesn't crack where the
back and the seat come together?

My used gator that I brought from the JD dealer had new seats put on which were the ones on the
right so its probably the cheaper one.

My friend found some Yellow seat covers to put on his Gator when the seats cracked like they all
do.

(quoted from post at 09:35:39 09/21/22) Why? Because seats are EXPENSIVE.

BE,
They are not as expensive as hours upon hours of misery while sitting in a bad one, followed by years and years of misery from a bad back caused by it.

The one with the holes is more expensive. It has a steel back. The other one has plastic back. The original seats are very much like the cheap one, except it had a drain hole.

They only had one on hand, so I gotta wait a few days to change another.

When I was a kid, everyone went to town on Saturday night. I remember watching those old farmers walk down the sidewalk and I wondered if their backs were crooked from riding those old tractor seats or were the tractor seats crooked because of the farmer's backs. Some of those old tractor seats would hurt a young man's back.

Are they more than $0? Then they're more expensive than the misery and long term pain.

For a decent quality aftermarket seat and suspension for a tractor (not even correct OEM) you're looking at $1200 minimum. That milk crate and 2x12 looks awful comfortable when you don't have $1200.

Cheap seats aren't worth the time to install them. They're bent and broken by the time you sit in them the first time.

My 1995 mower had the typical black cracked mower seat.I

I found a pair of leather captains chairs from a couple that were turning their conversion van into a camper.
Being from the second row they were unused and like new.
Gave $50 each, this one has been on four years, no cracks.
Other one is in storage until this one falls apart.

The Mennonites like to go up to Mount Horeb truck parts and get air ride seats from out of semi trucks. They modify them to accept a bicycle pump. They use them on almost anything. One guy put an old truck seat on his 750b Deere dozer. Cost him $125 for a complete seat. He did not mind that it said Eagle across the back.

Sweetfeet Now that is one beautiful tractor and implement. Simple engineering. No DEF and no GPS. And no flat tires. Ha Ha. Wingnut. On the tractor I mean.

In my opinion Deere has never made a good seat the seat on my 5105 split and started pulling
away from the seat pan and back within three years and tractor is always parked under a shed. I
bought a replacement off Ebay for a hundred or so less than from Deere. It was an exact fit,
much more comfortable than the OE seat. It came from Seat Wharehouse. Unfortunately they
closed up about 3-4 years ago. The seat on my 3005 is uncomfortable due to the seat back
being straight up and the seat is just small. I bought Deere slip-over covers for both tractors and
my S240 and the seats seem to be holding up well. I have seen some Gator seats that self
destructed within a year.

I like the OEM seat that is on our H it rides good and has some flex to it with me on it at 300. The ones I hate are the ones on my 806and 856 so rigid they don't give any. I'm going to put a truck seat on one of them this winter Probably the 806 since that seat is the worst condition. Need to overhaul the front axle also.

Good afternoon, all: I just wanted to get my two cents' worth on this thread, although I am referring to a lawn/garden tractor (Deere 212). The seat on mine had covering that was getting ratty and I thought it might fall apart. Since I only use it about one hour at a time, I opted to buy a simple seat cover from Lowe's. It just slipped on, and has worked ok for several years. I like that it has three open pockets on back for small tools, first aid kit, etc. Also has a zipper pocket for stuff I want to keep clean. The seat cover is ugly in its old age, but so is the tractor and its owner....
