I thought Id share what my kid drug home this time A 1965 International transporter custom built in LA. All aluminum body/cab powered by a Red Diamond RD 450 V-8. He has no idea what the history of this truck may be, very low mileage and in excellent condition. Runs well with a 5 spd (5th over) transmission and 2 spd rear end. It was converted, he feels, from a custom van body way back but hes not sure and will start the search for info. It has a tiny kitchenette behind the seats, in front of the ramps. A neat project that hes like to use in his vintage racing, classier then a van and trailer.. Larry

Could you be wrong on the engine the red diamond 450 was a 6 cylinder I was thinking. The v*s would have been a 468 549 or maybe a v404 or so just curious. That is a really neat vehicle for sure.

Wonder if it could have been intended for European use? I have seen pics of emergency trucks with a body like that for response teams.

There are 2 military surplus pto winches in front of the ramps. One to pull a car in, a lowered race car would not have the ground clearance if it was pulled just to the horizontal truck bed. The other runs the door up and down.

Is the ramp hinged at the front and once level can be raised for a second vehicle under?

My bet is it was for a sports car racing team or maybe something related to the movie industry.

The windshield and molding looks like new.

I've got an old 549 in an old cement truck I would let go of. I'm going to make a trailer out of a tandem truck to pull to the bins with It would hold around 500 Bushel and pulled with one of the Stiegers for stopping and seeing over. Biggest problem I had was if the engine gets hot those huge intake valves warp and don't seal good then. And that then compounds starting problems.

Forgot to say that 549 will like it's refinery. Will pass everything except the refinery. In need of rings and bearings mine would use enough of 50 gallon you had to fill up to go again. Per 50 mile round trip to the elevator at one time 40 years ago. Scares me to think about that with the price of fuels today.

Do not forget the 392. Maybe 65 was to early for those. My dad worked for the local COOP elevator. Early 70s they decided to buy a semi. IH 17 or 1900 Loadstar single axle with a 392. Dad took on driving it and occasionally I would go with him, probably would not be allowed today. About 40 miles from our town on the way to Kansas City was the town of Seneca KS. After slowing to pass through it there was a fairly good grade to ascend. He would start early so it would still be dark at this point in the trip. One of the first times as we made the crest of the hill dad said take a look at the muffler, she was glowing a dull red all the way back to the down pipe.
