Leader Tractor

The friend of a friend just bought this at an auction.
He grew up on one and would like to restore it.
From a bit of searching I see they aren't too common.
It looks pretty complete and nothing looks complicated at all.
We're wondering about the transmission tho.
It looks like it has sort of a a transaxle in it. Auction bill said transmission has issues. I don't know what that might be.
Looks like it has the Hercules in it which turns over.
Are there any Leader Gurus here that could give the owner a leg up on this tractor before he gets started?
Here are a few photos of it.

The post-war pride of Chagrin Falls! I think the rear transaxle was built by Clark. The engine is an IBX series Hercules and it has a Ross steering gear, which is, from my experience, usually bad on these tractors. They also had an early and crude 3 point hitch as an option.

They are a nice looking machine, reminiscent of the Jeep-based Empire tractor of the same era. You can also dump ALOT of money into one (Hercules parts aint cheap!) and in the end, its still- at tip-top, restored condition- a 2000.oo tractor at best.

If he gets into that transmission and needs parts, I have a derelict one in the fence row that might be useful...

Thanks WB.
WE will keep you in mind.
I had a Herc JXB in an old truck once.
Ended up replacing it with a JXLD which was the same size externally but bigger bore and stoke. Quite a bit more pep.

They were actually made by the Brockway family in Auburn Twp. and used Chagrin Falls, a larger town, for the mailing address. No relation to the truck company.
