Allis Chalmers D-17 gas over bore kit

Hello! I just recently bought an Allis Chalmers D 17 gas and it needs a motor rebuild and I saw that they make over bore kits 1/16th of an inch bigger than original motors and I was thinking about putting that in this but I was wondering how many horse that actually gives me more than that original motor if someone could help me with this that would be great! Thanks! -Ryan

Since the head will remain stock, and you must move more air to increase horsepower, I would except 3 or 4 extra hp. There is no reason that I know of not to put in the big bore kit. THe price will be the same and any increase is better than no increase.Go down to the AC page, those guys will fix you up with a new 200 engine :)

yes, that's a 301 cubic inch, thats going to be a major transplant, and you wont have enough radiator to cool it, among other problems!

That engine has a stock bore and the overbore kits were 4.125. That is basically the same engine as the WC, WD.and WD45 You will gain some power but also gain a lot of problems such as hard starting when cold. I know a lot of people will chime in and tell of the good results grandpa had with an overbore kit The WC and WD had a 4 inch stroke and was increased to 4.5 for the WD45. Good way for a competetive puller, but not for work. I never heard of a 1/16 overbore

Im not sure I will need to start this in the winter time very much Im just using this mainly for spring and fall work in the field and I was just looking for a little more horsepower.

As for the 200 motor I wasnt thinking about putting that motor in this I want to keep this tractor some what original but thanks for the input.

There are probably thousands of them out there with 4.125 overbore kits. Never once heard of them being harder to start. The compression ratio of the kit is the question. If that is lower than the pistons you have now, it may be a wash or you lose power. Same or higher and you'll gain a pony or two.
