Yellow Project #1 301A Scrap Pile

Since it was obvious that this 301A was used mainly as a loader tractor. The edge on the front bucket was grind back about 5 inches. So I finally got to use some
of the 3/16 7018 welding rods that I picked up at a metal scrap yard 20 years prior. Bought 4 50 lbs cans of them that someone threw away. I also kept a wore out
on one side cutting edge off a medium size track hoe. Added a 1/2 X 3 flat stock.

No better feeling than finally using a good find, I have a number of them still waiting for a use. Nice bead across the edges, many of us know it ain't that easy.
As far as not maintaining something so obvious, a lot of us have a belt line right in front that needs taken care of that we continue to ignore. Kind of the same. lol

This machine was not only neglected, it was deliberately sabotage by pouring sand, gravel, pecan shells and lots of water down intake. Crankcase breather tube and hood left off so lots of rain water got in and seized up the camshaft and two lifters. One sleeve froze from the inside out cracking it. Somehow the head and block survived. I had to replace the camshaft it was so pitted.

Sounds a little like my 401B, just one more cylinder to deal with. Mine sat with water in the pan for a long time. Mine spun a main bearing. A new cap along with a line bore took care of that. I had to replace all the liners, and Pistons. I had my cam reground it was so pitted. I also had to repalce the cam gear, from being pitted. Your 301 should to turn out to be a good tractor with all the work you are doing. I think the yellow JD's are a bit stronger. Stan

You know, you are going to have a pretty good loader tractor there someday. You need to be thinking of some other name than 'Scrap Pile'.

Already using it. Just sharing the process it went through. Working on Yellow project #4 right now but side track trying to help a friend with his Yanmar 226 that sat with water in the tank and seized up the injection pump. Here is a picture of yellow project #1/

Here is my yellow one, doing what it does best on the west coast of California. I don't know any history on the tractor. I don't think it ever had a loader. It may have been used as a mowing tractor like I am using it for, or a box scraper? Stan
