Found these two in my buddies scrap yard . I can get them $100 motors stuck tires look good . Any value to saving them .

Cub Cadet Originals from 1961 to 1963.

The air cleaner alone would likely fetch $50

Rear tires on first pic might be oem.

P.S.
I just noticed the first one has a pto shaft sticking out the back.

That with the main tranny shaft inside and the engagement links and levers can be sold for $400 or so.

If you want a project go for it, probably can't go wrong. I have bought a lot less for a lot more. Stan
 
Wish I could find bargains like that. Those engines are so cheap and easy to rebuild you could have 2 GOOD garden tractors with less than $400 invested.
 
Years ago I was happy to get rid of my 10 hp cub cadet for $100.
It was running and had a mower deck.

They are valuable if you find someone that wants to make a pulling garden tractor out of it. Strong transmission and rear end.

I didn't like replacing the starter/generator every few years.
I didn't like replacing the spindles on the mower deck often.
I didn't like having only a 3 speed transmission.
First gear too slow to mow, second gear too fast to mow.

I have no plans to buy another cub cadet.
 
There are no mower decks that I see . There located in southeast minn . Thought a buddy night want them but haven't heard back .
 
Those should not be scrapped. At the very least parted out. But maybe saved. Someone will want them even if you don't. You won't lose money.
 
Am I seeing correctly that the one in the top photo has a PTO shaft out the back? Kinda hard to tell but it it sure looks like it to me. If so that is a rare and somewhat valuable add-on attachment that collectors (such as myself!) would be interested in.
 
All of the cubs I have owned have been hydrostats. Right now I have a pair of 1450s that mow our acreage around the house. 50 decks and can mow forward and reverse - they buzz across lawn type surfaces. Mowing weeds 5' tall are another issue - they knock them down more than they cut them off.

I have never owned a manual cub and I suspect I would be annoyed using one after years of variable speed in the hydrostats. The biggest issue with a cub is that the deck blades seem to move slow compared to other mowers - even the cheap MTDs. This isn't an issue with lawn mowing but can become an issue when knocking down tall grass (12 tall). The grass is in bigger clumps because its taller and the slower blades don't seem to throw it near as far. You end up with windrows of hay instead of it being scattered across the the freshly mowed area.
 
I had a 104 and a 129 for years and NEVER had any starter-generator problems and NEVER had any spindal problems. I agree the 104 should have the optional extra transmission. But low gear was oll I would have wanted at any tome mowing.

Dad bought an Original like that in 1963. When I broke the second toothed steel reinforced timing belt on that timed deck we traded for a 1965 #70 which is still sitting out in my shop with my '68 #72 I bought in 1979. And there's a 982 super garden tractor I bought in 2000. I REALLY hate that Onan engine, tractor is fine otherwise. So many stupid design features in that engine! I had a 129 Hydro for 10 years, tractor had been the only mower for a one-man lawn care company, it had been over lots and lots of yards.
Those Original Cub Cadets are terrible pulling tractors, there's a tiny belt between the engine & driveshaft, and a 7 hp engine is NOT going anywhere on a pulling track.. The model #70 & #100 and newer gear drives are the pulling tractors, Julian Stahl in Welton, Iowa just off Rt 61 is your source for pulling parts for your Cub Cadet, Midwest SuperCub.
I doubt either of those two Cubbies run, $100 each is plenty for them. If somebody could check the serial numbers, a very early '63 vintage some guys would pay absolutely crazy money for, has to be 2 or early 3 digit serial number.

And the Originals as in the picture often have broken connections of the cast iron where it bolts to the fabricated front half of chassis.
 
Ah, I see your post below now where you did mention the PTO. I was looking at the pictures to see if either had a rockshaft when I noticed the one had that option.
