Farmall cub

Do you have your eyes on one already? What are they asking for it. I think my brother has two he would gladly sell.

In standard trim they are underpowered, installing a tighter governor spring and bringing the rpm s up will help a lot as well as keeping the blades sharp.

They ll mow the law just fine as long as you aren t in a hurry and remember, it s not a brush hog.

Love our Cubs! Got a '50 that we mow several acres with every week. Looks like a putting green! It ain't a zero turn, it ain't fast, but fun, so sit down , crank it up and enjoy cutting your grass. We plow, disk, cultivate, mow, pull hay rides, scrape the driveway all with our cubs! I can't think of a reason to not buy a cub!

Theyre a quiet, easy-going mower, but that deck is the absolute limit of what that mighty 60 cu.in. engine can handle! I have to take half cuts when passing over the septic field so as not to bog it down and clog the deck.

Its either that or change my diet...

My dad had a cub with a 4 ft belly mower.
I like my Farmall C better with a 6 ft woods belly mower.
The boss wouldn't trade the Farmall C for a new Kubota ZTR.
First gear does a better job of mowing vs 2nd gear..
I use a kubota to power my 6 ft woods Rear Mount. It does a better job because I can spin the blades faster and go 6+ mph.

I bought a 1951 Cub with a 4-foot belly mower several years ago because, well, I think they're so darned cute. I also mow with two 47-inch John Deere 200-series garden tractors as well as a 60-inch Woods under a 1951 8N Ford. I love riding on the Cub, but as mowers go it can't compare with the Ford, of course, but not even with the 212 and 214 Deeres. It is just vastly underpowered in anything taller than putting-green grass. Half cuts at highest height are the rule. Don't get me wrong -- I still love the Cub and would buy another one, but I don't use it much any more. At least it stores in tight shed space.

(quoted from post at 14:50:45 09/12/22) Looking at purchasing a cub with a woods belly mower. How well do they mow? Any comments are appreciated.

Results range from, not-at-all to tolerable. Depends on how tired the tractor is, which Woods mower deck you're talking about, the type of grass being mowed, the terrain, etc..

On flat open ground with a healthy fresh engine, nice dry not-too-thick grass, and a well-set 59" mower deck with good sharp blades, it's quite enjoyable.

Get an old smoker that's down on power, trying to mow thick grass on hills, you're going to be getting off and pushing to keep from running out of power.

I have 2 Cubs with 59 inch Wood mowers. I keep my blades sharp and the mowers adjusted. They do a beautiful job.
I can almost always cut lawn grass in 2nd gear. I am quite happy with them.
