Case 480ck won t start

1970 s Case 480ck will not start. Clean the heck out of carburetor. Wired and blew out all passages.

Will start as long as I am spraying starter fluid or gum out or squirt fuel inside. When I stop spraying the engine stops too.
Out of ideas. This model carburetor has the electric solenoid.

When it will only run on spray, either there is no fuel in the carb bowl, or
the main circuit is plugged.

Try removing the drain plug in the bottom of the carb. There should be a
steady flow of fuel, not a drip or stop. If there is a fuel pump, it should
flow fuel when the engine is being cranked.

If fuel in the bowl, the solenoid is the next place to look. The function of
the solenoid is to open the main jet to let the engine run, and close the jet
to stop the fuel when the ignition is off. This prevents run-on of a hot
engine, and prevents unburned fuel from passing through the engine as it
coasts to a stop.

It is possible the solenoid is bad, or not getting power to retract the
needle, or the tip of the needle is broken off and stuck in the opening
blocking the fuel flow.

I know this may sound stupid, but it's happened before (to me). Did you check the fuel tank to make sure there is fuel in it. My ford tractor with updraft carb decided to let the fuel out of my tank and I had just put gas in it when I used it last. After sitting for a week or so it wouldn't start so Id did the usual by pulling the carb, blowing out the lines then when I decided the sediment bowl inlet must be plugged and dog gone it there was an empty tank. just a thought. When I had the carb on the bench I pulled the main jet out. Filled the hole with carb cleaner and blew air though it. It came out where the solenoid needle would have been, so that passage seems clear.
I do have fresh fuel and it does flow out from the petcock at the bottom of the bowl.
Solenoid works by observation.

Theoretically I could remove the solenoid all together and just put a brass plug in it s place. If it s only purpose was to stop the fuel from flowing when engine was turned off.

If it is like others the solenoid opens the main (load) jet needle when energized, so you cannot just remove it and put a plug in the hole. You would need to get an adjustable load jet kit to fit your carburetor, if you want to eliminate the solenoid type load jet. I didn't see one listed on the YT site, you would need to call them or contact a place like McDonald Carb.

Some solenoids have screw in the outer end of them you can remove to pull the spring and needle out. if yours is like that you can try pulling the spring and needle out. Reinstall the spring then the needle. The screw can then be used to manually adjust the load jet. Turn the screw in to lightly seat the needle them back it out a couple full turns and try it, fine tune from there if it runs. This can work as a temporary fix until either a new solenoid or adjustable needle are acquired and installed. Again, it will not work on all solenoid arrangements.

Removed carburetor one more time. I did find a plugged passage. The one at the very bottom of the bowl. Used a set of carburetor wires to finally poke it through. Engine started right up and ran fine. I let run for a while to warm up. Shut it down and added some oil. Tried starting it again, it back fired and jammed the starter.
Removed starter and the pinion was jammed tight. Had to remove the nose cone to unjam it.
Now the start won t engage engine flywheel.
The saga will continue later.
