TF bought a running DC Case back in the day for 40 bucks. What is the cheapest tractor u ever bought and what shape was it in? For me it was a 1941 running Case VC for $400. I bought it in 1980 when I was 11. I still have it. Bill

A wide front Farmall350.Nice little tractor that looks good and runs even better. Even had brand new rear tires.$500.00

I think my cheapest tractor that I acquired, would be my dads old VAC 14. After dad had passed, none of the rest of the family wanted it cause it wasnt a tractor in running condition. And the family didnt think it had any value, so I said I would take it away. My brother said, get it out of here!
I did buy a Case VA for $800.00 and a 430 Case Diesel for $1,000.00. Both running.

My cheapest was free. A 36 WC Allis, rough not running and stuck motor. Next was a package deal, a 53 super M Farmall, running and a 50 MD Farmall not running both for $200

My cheapest tractor that wasn't a parts tractor would be a cc case I bought from Willem equipement in 1981 for 200.00 He was selling out his case dealership and just keeping the garden tractor line.My dad had traded him this cc in on a new 730ck and 4 bottom plow in 1966. He had kepted it for himself. When I asked him about it he said that he would sell it back to me for what he allowed dad for it in 1966. I still have it

All I have now were cheap.
8N free.
VA Case $600.
JD H $650.
Kubota L50 30 with loader $4500.
I use them all.

I see a few here have also gotten ''free'' tractors.

Maybe its just my bad luck, but every free tractor Ive ever ended up with cost me PLENTY of money!

I did work as a caretaker on a 8 acre mini-farm for for 30+ years and got a real nice Farmall Cub and 6 implements as my retirement gift. 20 years later and I'm
STILL not sure that was any kind of a deal...

3020 diesel with brush cutter it was at scrap yard. traded stuff out of a bank we were tearing down. Doors, bunch of glass, even the drive through window. We towed the tractor back to where we kept our equipment checked it out and put a battery in it and it cranked right up ran good. we used it for several years until the motor seized up. we looked at it saturday talked about swapping the motor out of another we have.

When in HS I bought a JD H with a two row cultivator for $100.
You had to start it by hand.
The tractor burnt in the barn fire, sold for junk.

I got a free Farmall Super A in it's work clothes along with some implements including a single point disc. My uncle gave it to me and it belonged to my grandfather before him. To get it home, I hauled it halfway across the country (eastern NC to central KS) on a rented U-Haul car carrier. That cost me around $1k in 2015. My neighbor called it nostalgia tax. He was right.

Bought the Case LAI for $125 had to rebuild the magneto and buy a used rear tire. Bought an Economy for $50, wasn't a good buy at that.

I bought 2-1030s and a 930 and put the best parts together along with an overhaul kit and after selling off the left over parts I have less than $1,000 in it so far. Will eventually paint it and put tires on it so will likely have around 4k in a completely rebuilt tractor.

MM Z tractor wasn't running but had like new rear tires and good rims $25.Kept the wheels and tires and sold the tractor for $200.Fellow gave me a nice FF 18 Craftsman with hydraulic lift and 3pt said his son was tired of it.

Healthy 1948 VAC Case bought on an estate auction for $65 about 1968.

Actually, my wife bought it. I wasn't able to be at the auction.

Didn't think of it before but the D7 in the background was given to me. Ran but needed attention.

You guys make me fell bad with those kinds of deals. No cheap tractors here. The cheapest deal was the 856 I bought from my brother last winter /spring for what he paid for it. 3000.00 runs good and steers good with not real problems other than lights need work. It could use a set of rear tires. These will work till I find some for my price.

I bought a 1948 M Farmall with front end loader decades ago for $750.00. I had it repainted years later and sold it for $1500.00 to a collector. Kow Farmer Kurt

Not a tractor but I bought a 4400 gas combine for $400 in the early 2000's. Used it for 18 years. Sold it at consignment auction last fall, got $864 after commission. My cheapest implement was a Minnesota grain binder in good shape for $2. at a retirement auction.

I was left 656 Hydro with a 2000 loader in a will. Other than flat tires I have not spent anything on it.

Mid 1970s paid $25 for an old Square tank WC allis with mounted corn picker at an auction. Drove it about 6 or 8 miles home and sold it a couple weeks later for around $200. Bought and sold a lot of old tractors in the 70s.

In 1988 I got a three wheel Silver King. It was supposed to be free. A widow had it out back they used it to clear trees around their house. I felt bad and gave her $50. One rear tire blew out sitting on the trailer in the sun. They ran it without an air cleaner. The pistons have about an eighth in clearance in the bores.

i bought a 1939 Cat R2 with blade for $600 in 1962--was in working condition and did odd jobs around town with it

Grandpa bought a 41 John Deere B in Spring of 1954 for $50.00, it had brand new tires all the way around. That Fall he sold the horses, Bill and Tom, a matched pair of Belgians, the last horses on the home farm. I was sad to see them go.

Bought JD H & cultivators for $150 in 1959. Good running tractor. Don't know what happened to it, Dad sold it while I was in college.

BOUT 1980, FOUND ERCOUPE PLANE, COVERED IN 2 FT SAND, SUDAN, TX HANGAR...OWNER LIVED SCOTLAND...OFFERED $1300 ON FONE...GOT USED BATTY, CAR GAS, CHG OIL, AIR TARZ, FLEW HER HOME...BE BLESSED, GRATEFUL, PREPARED...

M-F 40 that I bought as a complete tractor for parts or to get it running again. $300 and it came with a New Idea trip bucket loader. Ended up parting it out, saved what I needed for my tractor. Gerrit

Paid 300 dollars for a Massey Harris 55 with a 3-71 Detroit Diesel transplant. Used it for a few years sold it for 2500....after I swapped the very good tires off it...

technically, my 1256. man said, give me $1500 for the 2350 loader that went on it, and the tractor is yours.

1256 had gone swimming, and I guess owner wanted to make sure it was totaled. I had to put a tire on one side to move it, and rollback charged me $400 to haul. I have taken enough parts off it to break even there, and there is still mucho dollaro in parts waiting. Even the damaged back rim will straighten. And still haven't gotten around to sell the loader.

A 1960 Ferguson TO35, free!

The owner was killed in a motorcycle accident, his wife didn't remember him even having it, she said take it and give it a good home!

Back around 1969 or 70, an older neighbor was selling out (Michigan) and moving to Florida. Dad and I went down to see him, and Dad bought an extension ladder and a couple other things. He had an H Farmall with a trip bucket loader sitting in the yard, and Dad asked what he was going to do with that. He said he was going to sell it. Dad asked how much, and Frank said $15.00. Dad said, no really how much. He repeated $15.00. I watched as they negotiated in reverse, with buyer trying to pay more, and seller trying to hold firm. Finally it got up to $50.00, and Dad still said it was worth more. Frank said if you don't buy it for that, I will sell it to somebody else for that. So, Dad paid him. After he paid for it, he told Frank it was for me. (I was maybe 14 or so, and had no idea Dad was planning that). Frank then said if he had known that he would have just given it to me. It did have a flat rear tire, and we knew we would have to have it fixed before driving it home. Next day we went by, and Frank had tire off to get repaired. Had it for several years, then traded it on a Moline M-5 Diesel.

1950 farmall H $245.00 49 years ago. Not running and surface rust but gas tank was clean and dry, radiator full of antifreeze and full of oil.Towed it home, checked for stuck valves, all ok, cleaned the points, put in some gas ,new battery and fired right up. Put some different used tires on 20 years ago and repainted it 9 years ago. Use it summertime small jobs and it rests winter time. Gary.

Guy came up to me at the state fair tractor display. Asked if I ever heard of an Oliver tractor. I said yes and I would like to have one. So he told me where it was and to come look at it. Next day I went to his place and he was on the phone so he just pointed for me to go out into the weeds behind his shop. It was an Oliver Super 66. He asked me if that was what I was looking for and I said it sure is! He said well get it out of here. He said if you will do somting with it to just take it. He said that when his Grandpa died up in Idaho, him and his brother decided that they wanted something of his so they went up there with their rolloff truck and that was the first thing they saw. Brought it back home and unloaded right there, 17 years ago. So if you will do something with it, take it. It had a can over the exhaust so a fresh battery and gas and it was running. Sweet tractor!!

Some one gave me a MF Industrial. The engine was froze, and needed rear tires, and rims, and a front wheel and hub, an injuction pump. Other than that it was free. I did use it quite a few years mowing. Stan

In the early 70's I bought a Farmall M at a sale about 40 miles away in Frederick Md.for $300. Drove it home, took almost 2 hours to get home, and the better part of a tank of gas.

Free!! My neighbor was moving and didn't want to deal with his Farmall 340. The engine was stuck along with a few valves. It didn't take much to get it running but not very good. I ended up putting in new rings and doing a crank grind. I kept it two years and finally sold it. It was a good tractor but didn't fit me

It appears that the loader must have been all the way up to come out of that so straight.

(quoted from post at 10:45:56 08/29/22) Kinda like getting a free horse. Bill

From what I have seen a free horse is pretty much always a money pit, while a free tractor can be expensive but at least you can part them out instead of repairing them.

Picked up a John Deere 110 with a snowblower, sleeve hitch, Brinley plow and cultivator. I figure the tractor was free because I was only interested in the attachments. Fixed it up and now I use it all the time.

I've bought hundreds of N fords since 1973, about 1/2 ran. Never gave over $250.00 for any of them. All of them went for scrap
