Pics mowing a combo of purple top and teff cow hay with the 1958 Farmall 350 and my old 7ft Hesston 1110 sickle mower conditioner. I got some video and will post when I can get to uploading it.

Thanks - no TA abuse. But I did (and do) use it. Started out mowing 2nd gear TA for a couple of rounds, I was satisfied the tractor would handle the haybine and that it was not going to fly apart. Been a few years since I have ran the Hesston and first time I have used the Farmall for anything other than drawbar chores. These Farmall are all new to me. In my neck of the woods Ford 3000s and MF 135s ruled and are still a great presence on farms. So with dark approaching, I quit for the day. Made that other post, and returned to the farm the next afternoon. First gear direct is a tad slower than second TA, so I tried that to spare the TA. At that speed, I estimated I would be finished with the field next year

So I used second gear direct, the mower cut with no problems, the Farmall while loaded, did not overheat or cause me concern - at full throttle too and I got finished.

Over the course of cutting, I went from somewhat jangled nerves hoping nothing would break to a nice relaxing cruise as I went along and finished.

It is my expectation that this Farmall 350 can and will be used full load and full out on this farm as required. No offense to anyone, but I will leave the parade tractors to others - LOL!

Thanks,
Bill

I think we used to mow with our MD in 3rd with a 9 foot NI in Alfalfa. Fairly heavy hay for the time. Raked with it or the H or whatever was open at the time. Hauled wagons with what was open too.

That tractor should handle that haybine in 3rd direct with ease-the only exception might be a steep hill, and I doubt you would mow hay on a hill that steep anyway. I have ran a 300u all my life and still do, so I know how powerful it is in any situation. But, to make the power, it will drink the gas! Mark.
