This year is very dry here. Not much is growing. I think that it is the driest here since 1973. I used to hay nearly 100 acres, but I have cut back a lot and have only about 15 acres now. All of it is within a half mile of my place. Today I baled second cut on my largest field which is 6 acres. It is also my driest field. In a good year I will get 300 45 lb. bales of first cut and 200 second cut. Never a third cut. I just got done baling second cut and made 36 bales. I barely covered my fertilizer cost.

We all been there and done that,it takes rain too, just not fertilizer to make some production!!!! How about the guys in Wyoming, they didn't make any hay for 3 years,OUCH !! This year 2022, they got hay!

It is dry here. Didn't do first cut until
mid July. Only cut about 20 acres made
around 200 bales. A hundred of that was
on one field. It was a low field that
catches a lot of tail water. I have been
turning away most of the hay cutting work
this year. Not going to mow a field for
nothing.

Farmer down the road did some second cutting. Not
much more than grass clippings he said. Half of his fields
are still standing.
