Dont know a lot about DEF or regeneration, was looking at a non-DEF tractor, I thought that was the way to go, but GF is having trouble with his. Kind of cooled off on the tractor now. Is DEF better?

I don't know about DEF in tractors but have a pickup using DEF that has been a problem. Have replaced DEF tank and heater (under warranty), heater alone once, DEF injector nozzle cleaned once, DEF injector nozzle replaced once, one (of four)exhaust gas temperature sensor replaced. For some reason when new the truck wasn't automatically regenerating so had to take it to the dealer or a repair shop for them to burn out the particulate filter(truck parked away from flammable material, runs at high idle, hot exhaust to burn out filter) at least four times. One repair that was done fixed that problem. The diesel pickup I had before DEF went over one hundred thousand miles with only one non- maintenance repair, that was the mass air sensor had to be replaced. That was why a bought a second one. Not real happy with this one.

Only electronic engine diesel I have any experience with is the C-15 In my Pete it had ovea million miles on it with little trouble and none with the fuel and no def or regen nonsense to deal with. Is over 20 years old and will now probably give me fits. 6NZ engine.

Had a Newholland with it for 5 years never an issue, had a kubota with it for 4 years , bit of a PITA .

I prefer my Farm Tractor without the exhaust treatment. All of the Emissions treatment stuff works well when the equipment is used on a regular basis. Get you something that is Name Brand and built prior to 2010. There is Plenty available.

You do realize how illogical and irrational it is to base your choices/opinions off the experiences of ONE guy with ONE tractor, right? Especially a peach like Grumpy Farmer. He made it sound like if you went to Empire Farm Days you were walking through the pits of hell with little devil demons jabbing the bottoms of your feet with hot pokers while flying monkeys clawed at your eyeballs and hair. Man that guy can complain. So can his wife. So can his kid.

The issues get way overblown because of social media. Yes there are issues. There are always issues, especially with a new technology. Not everyone has issues. The vast majority of them are fine.

Not a tractor but DEF just the same. We've been running a 2014 BMW 328dX since new in May of 2014 with no problems whatsoever. Uses very little DEF but then it's only a 2.0L engine. Engine on my new Farmall tractor uses DEF and goes through a quite a bit of it. About 5 gallons per 100 hours which, to me, seems like a lot. Too early to tell how it will hold up. PS: I paid $30.00 for 5 gallons of DEF at CaseIH.

Active regeneration on my 2015 John Deere 6125M occurs (according to John Deere) about every 100 hours. I barely notice it when it happens although the Univ of Neb noted that during full load testing a 7% loss of power was observed during regeneration.
