Yesterday morning I was up early for the 215 mile drive out to Goessel,Kansas for the tractor and steam show..I arrived there early enough to see the parade which started on Main street at 9:30 AM..The crops actually looked better out that way than here in my part of Missouri...Just a little to the south and west of there the crops are burnt up ..It was a warm 103 degrees at Goessel but the wind blew some all day so it wasnt too bad.Locals told me that they had a 1.5-2 inch rain about 2 weeks ago..The ground was just about right for plowing..Its a great show.

Some of the highlights of the show for me were the following..

1-All the nice and very friendly people..

2-The plowing-I cant get enough of it..So few shows have a place to do this.

3-The Mennonite ladies with their tasty blueberry, apple, peach, cherry cobblers served with ice cream...That alone is worth the trip..

4-The start up of the big prairie tractors at 12:30 PM.

5-The parade on Main Street.

6-The start up of the big De La Vergne engine.

7-The threshing with a S Allis Crawler and a KTA Twin City powering them.

Its only going to let me post 9 pictures so here they are.Several other tractors-crawlers plowed but I didnt get pictures..

Some nice old iron plowing. Looks like a great show. Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks a bunch for posting all these pictures of our show. It was a warm one, into the triple digits, but we still had a good time.

The young man driving the Deere 60 is my 15-year old son. This tractor was owned by his great-grandfather (my mother-in-law's father) for use on his farm northeast of Goessel back in the 1950s and great-grandpa also owned the Deere #44 plow it's pulling (although he bought this later in life and never actually farmed with it). I sure didn't need another tractor but when my wife's uncle decided to sell it I figured I'd regret it later if I let it get away. My son would like to restore it as an FFA project.

The steamers and the crawlers are the least seen tractors plowing in shows most places I've been to. I like seeing tracks plowing. But then I didn't know what plowing with wheels was till I was about 16. Always plowed with the D-4 till Dad bought a D-6 to plow with. I say a D-6 it is the same size. Cat called it a No,6 traxcavator is a tracked loader like a 977 only older. Looks like a D-6 for configuration. We pulled 6-16's with it and could have used 8-18's on it easily. They make the nicest round corners at the side of the field when finishing up.

Only one crawler ever used for farming in my area and the owner died years ago when his house blew up and killed him. One other a John Deere MC that owner has a plow on it but he is not an actual farmer more of a hobby farmer.

Thanks for coming over Blaine, and thanks for the pictures. Curtis also plowed with his Moline universal, something really appreciated, never saw one at work in my life.
