It followed us home

My oldest son Grayson had somewhat been on the lookout for another decent 1 row Farmall to add to his collection and use in his small farming operation. My better half had an add on some of her FB activities about a Farmall Super A. In turn, she sent the photos and info to me and Grayson. Well, one thing led to another naturally and it now resides here on the farm. All of the cultivators were included. I thought I would have to come back home to get another trailer to hold his grin on so we could get everything back home ! He ought to be well equipped now with it, a 140 and a 300. We spent today getting the fertlizer setup installed and servicing it with greases and fluids. Should be good to go hopefully. I always enjoy getting to spend time with him working on projects like this. I still wish
I could find grandaddy's 140,but no luck yet.

That tractor looks in amazing shape. They look like oversize tires? With those tires and rear weights that thing will pull like a tank.

Yes the rears are oversized with 12.4 x 24s. I have yet been able to get used to them as far as the height of the tractor and the really fast speeds it has in all gears. Everything else around here has 11.2s on it and seems normal to me. It sure acts like every gear is 1 gear faster on this one.

He enjoys tinkering with old iron and farming just as much if not more than I do. Neither one is a cheap hobby, but it keeps us out of trouble. Lol.

Cool, he needs to read the Farmall board keep a eye out for Gene Bender (I think that's his name) he knows them well.

The first 100 I got the right bull gear housing broke off because the bolts were lose where the fender mounts. I loaned it to a neighbor with a brush cutter the first thing he did was get it stuck BAD it broke off the PTO housing when the cutter got in a bind.

I have rebuilt everything about that machine over the years. It has a place on the distributor drive to add grease do you know about that. I pump all my steering gear box's full of grease.

I am sure you have told him they will run over your arse never start it from the ground while standing on the right side. Does it have the replacement gas cap if not google it they are free.

Most are extremely easy to add a temperature gauge to. I am not sure about an A on my 100 I brought a used 140 engine and put all the good 140 parts in are on the engine. With a 140 head, cam, along with fire crater pistons they are strong machines.

Yes they are on the fast side : ( all mine have 12.4 x 24. When I tared up the 100 last fall they put tubeless rears on it so far so good.

It's obvious the tractor was well maintained, and his grin sez it all!. If the hobby continues to grow, some new shed space will be on the list. The offset Farmalls are still very useful. Having had a set of 12.4 rears on one, I did not notice the increase in speed, but I am fairly certain one would have more speed with them.

What you are saying means it has some different gearing in it as the 1 oversize will not make a noticable differenc in the speeds or height as they would only raise the tractor 1 in height, not enough to do what you are saying. I don't know that tractor as they were never sold in my area. I do know that the difference between the 11.2 and the 12.4 is not noticable at all unless you look at size marked on tire. My 2 Fords identical except for the 11.2 on one and 12.4 on the othere and being a 28 tire instead of a 24 tire it would show up more on the larger tire than on your size tire.

On tires some makes both sizes would have same diameter for both sizes, one make being smaller for that suze than the other. I had both Firestiones one set the orignal 1946 closed lug 10 x 38 that current sizing would be 11.2 x 28 and the other Firestone Field and Road in the 12.4 size and both were same overal diameter.

He has 5 acres of his own that he farms with this vintage of equipment. Corn, soybeans, and watermelons are his crops.

Jim he has the shelter space situation figured out. He is slowly parking my stuff out from under it so he can have more space.

Hobo he looks at YT occasionally and
gets ideas about stuff. It can be a
little trying at times to keep him
subdued a little. Lol. We pulled the
serial number and applied for the
gas cap offer, so that has been
hopefully taken care of. I tried to
instill in him when he 1st started
driving tractors to never start one
unless his rear was planted in the
seat and he was able to work the
clutch and brakes properly. On the
distributor grease fitting, I knew
about it but by the time I had my
turn to do the maintenance on what 1
rows are left running, the
distributor was so worn that a
replacement was the only fix.
Hopefully the replacement ones will
last as long as the original ones,
do I'm sure that it will be his
problem as I'll probably be unable
to do anything with the tractors by
then. Lol.
