Try again, the site deleted my first attempt because it did not like the name of the village.

This is another tower which holds part of my family history on my fathers side. Beeston-come-Mileham in Norfolk. The short tower is topped with a wooden spire with the weather vane on top. Many of my fathers family are buried in the churchyard including my grandmother and great grandmother.

The village was the birthplace of the famous bare-knuckle fighter, Jem Mace and there is a memorial to him near the entrance to the churchyard.

The church was used by men from the USAAF who flew from Beeston and Wendling aerodrome, during WW2, which was close by and the village contains many of their living quarters adorned by their paintings. There is a large memorial stone and garden to those who lost their lives.

A large John Deere dealer now operates from a much modified control tower and buildings on the site.

Not sure Richard, the person who ploughed that field many times, with a single furrow horse plough died in 2006. ;0) He would have known.

It could be a horse drinking pit or even a bomb crater. A number of bombs fell around here in WW2. The land is very heavy with flints and clay so it could also be where flint was dug for road mending.

All around this area there are quarries for flint, in fact Jem Mace, who I mentioned was reputed to have been born in one very close to this field.
