Pricing a tractor

I'm trying to sell my Father-in-Law's tractor to cover his medical bills. He's unable to sell it himself due to his condition. The tractor is a Kioti CK20, 2003 model, with loader & backhoe. 573 hours, hydrostatic transmission. Barn stored. Runs & operates properly with no known problems.

I'm trying to put a price tag on it. It will be for sale in rural Maine.

I'm looking at different tractors in the area and the only one I can find is a Montana T2734 which is a comparable (maybe touch larger) machine for sale in Exeter NH for $11,500. No Backhoe on that one.

Any thoughts on how to put a pricetag on a tractor like this? Backhoe will be sold with machine but is currently not mounted. Thanks in advance for any insight. Dave

Might check with an equipment dealer in your area and give them all the info about it and ask them what resale on it would be or what price they would put on it if they were selling it.
 
Thanks. Good suggestion. There's a CK25 TLB on TractorHouse in Ohio w/ similar hours for $21,500. But that is Ohio, not Maine. All the others are 'call for price.' I am not local to the tractor...I'm in a different state altogether, and know price varies with the location. I just don't know how much. Thanks again. Dave
 
If your in another state I would look up some dealers around your dad's area. It may cost commission but it would give potential buyers access to dealer brand financing. And even more so put the collection of payment on them. Dealing with that kind of money I would be scared that me dealing with f marketplace buyers. Lots of risk in accepting any form of payment and getting scammed. Hope it works out for yall.
 
I think youll find price varies a lot less by location on tractors like your fathers than on some of the older ones. You may also want to ask on Tractorbynet forum.
 
I think Kioti has a much better reputation than Montana tractor. I don't know the value but wish you luck.
 
While price does vary by area, it doesn't vary THAT much.

Whatever you do, don't lowball yourself. You can always lower your price. You can't (ethically) raise it.

Here's another idea: What did your Dad pay for it when he bought it? It's probably worth every penny of what he paid for it, if not more.
 


Call my buddy Jon Parks in Lancaster NH, 603-788-4577. He is a Kioti dealer in a similar market. He will probably give you both a wholesale and retail price. He may offer to purchase it.
 
My neighbor is selling out and leaving the area and has basically the same tractor but not hydrostat. It has a loader, backhoe, finishing mower and a 4 ft rotary cutter and a rear scraper blade. 300 Hours. Asking $25,000. Hope this helps.
 
Since you are the seller, you may want to look at an on-line auction service (not eBay) in your area. The tractors seem to sell for way more than Im willing to pay.
 
That looks to be about the same as my 2015 Kubota BX25DLB. For comparison (MI), I got it in Jan. with: 5' belly mower, forks, 5' front snow plow, 5' back blade, Cyclone Rake leaf collector, 6' lawn aerator, and spare tires and wheels for $17,500. W/O any attachments, I would be looking in the 11/$12,000 range.

Tractorhouse.com is a good place to start for valuation questions.

Of course, such published prices are asking prices rather than sale prices.
 
Thanks everyone for the responses. Good suggestions all around. I'll start with the dealer network and the online auctions services. I've seen some crazy prices at the online auctions. Might actually work to my FIL's benefit this time.
 
Probably 12-13,000 dollars. Another vote for putting through an auction. Right now people are paying stupid money for equipment. With interest rates rising, commodity prices nosing down, and the supply pipeline on equipment gradually refilling now would be the time to make such a move in terms of an auction sale before the herd changes directions. Most auction services have moved the burden of fees onto the buyer but inquire anyways as to any potential fees you may have to pay.
 
The on line auctions would actually get it out to where the bidders actually have a dealer for that make rether than asking what that is, never heard of it so not interested. It is one of thosein my area what is it and where do I get service? So I dont thing I am going to even be interested in it. And that is a big share of the country.
 
Neither one was ever sold in my area of the country so that is going to realy hurt you in trying to sell it. Not sold means no dealer support so no ability to get repaired when needed so no interest in it at any price.
 
The local Kioti dealer that it was purchased from will have a good idea of the demand for a tractor like that with those options and how to price it. Include the serial number with your inquiry, the dealer may still have it in their records. Most dealers are willing to help a previous customer and have a vested interest in maintaining the resale value of their products.
 
When I want to buy another car. truck, tractor, or trailer I look at the new and used price.
Many times people want almost new price for old used stuff.

I end up buying new and get factory warranty.

Find the new price and price accordingly.

Also consider some people can't pay cash, so they look at month payments.

So if you want to sell make it cheap
