Swelling is starting to go down. Still cannot lift arm away from body. Pain was terrible this early morning but took some ibuprofen and pain subsided in about an hour. Not to bad as I write this at 6.00 Wife said she believes my medi-care pays 100 percent for dr. visit. but I am not going because, well, I'm a stubborn Belgian.

Are you saying that when you tell your arm to lift up, it doesn't do anything? That's nerve damage, and you should have it looked at ASAP! The recovery time for nerve damage can be weeks or months, but in the meantime you might be doing additional damage. If those damaged nerves get severed, you'll never recover.

PLEASE go see a doctor, preferably an orthopedic surgeon. If you happen to know a pro athlete, find out who his orthopedist is. At the least, go to the closest ER or urgent care clinic.

My dad had a similar experience 35 years ago and wouldn't go to the doctor, a week later he was in ICU for heart attack. Did the fall cause the heart attack?? All worked out well but it could have turned out the other way just as easy. Go get checked out.

Stubborn is a good quality when there are not other options! recovery time from a fall can often be greatly reduced if you are timely about diagnosis. You have only a few hours of your time to get it looked at. Find out what is going on then bring out the stubborn card!

There's a difference between stubborn and stupid. Looks to me like you have 2 options, go to the Dr. NOW and get it taken care of or start lining up an auctioneer to sell stuff after you aren't able to move anymore. Your call!!

2011 fell out of a wagon to make a long story short noting helped so the doc ordered a cat scan. I messed it up bad I could not lift my arm above my shoulder for a long time without using my other hand pain meds were of no help. I did completely tear away the supraspinatus muscle. I went thru physical therapy ell!!! then went back to the orthopedic surgeon. I had planed to have it repaired about that time my wife needed surgery so put it off. Once we thought she was good to go secluded surgery again well it was not to be she had a stoke.

If I had it to do over again I would have it repaired and not put off. I have learned to live with it the doc said if I damage it again to get it repaired right away.

OK... this is your MN tractor sister telling you to go get it checked out!!
And ya have to listen to your sister!

No reason valid NOT to get it checked... especially if the expense is covered.

Better go get it checked out. Probably get a cortisone shot and therapy to start with. Just went through this myself. Mine wasnt from a specific injury, just wear and tear over the years, but I couldnt lift my shoulder either. Dont wait too long, the muscle will disappear fast when you dont use it

I am a stubborn German myself. I had a similar incident happen to me some years. Long story short, I tore a rotator cuff. Horrible pain! Please have a doctor look at your shoulder. The longer you wait, the worse things get. Good luck sir. Kow Farmer Kurt

I went thru rotator (sp) cuff surgery 3wks after the injury. My doctor said 3 weeks is the limit if nothing is done the damaged tissues start to heal in a dysfunctional manner which limits the potential recovery of corrective surgery.

Come on get off your b*tt and get it checked out.

I had a Neighbour that had a tumble backwards......one month later, bleeding into the Cranium. Subdural hematoma. He died!
He never felt lite headed until to late.

Bob..

I am planning to go to Sturgis this year. I suppose subconsciously part of the reason I don't want to go to Dr. is I don't want anything to screw up my plans. But in reading all your opinions, which I really appreciate by the way, I guess I will go to er tomorrow.
Thanks, the Flying Belgian.

A couple years ago I fell off the flat bed of my pick up truck while feeding cattle. Landed on my right side. Hurt like crazy. Wife was with me and helped me up and into the truck. I put it in a sling and that helped some. Thought I might recover on my own. Wrong. Went to doc and after x-rays, etc, sent to orthopedic surgeon who did more testing, etc, said I had a torn rotator cuff. Scheduled surgery. Had also found a tear in a bicep muscle. After the surgery went to a few weeks of therapy. Healed up pretty good but not as strong as before and a little limited behind the back and behind the head limitation but I'm getting by pretty good.
You need to get medical advice from a MD. Like some have said, waiting may make treatment and recovery less effective. Good luck!!

I pay nothing for a Dr visit. Nothing
for my vitamin B12 injection.
I have IU Med advtange supplement.
If I can't see Dr. I can see his nurse practitioner.

They can Rx pain killers.

As I said before. It will feel better when it stops hurting.

Dont know how to say this politely, so lm only going to tell you one more time. GET YOUR STUBBORN A$$ TO TH DOCTOR TODAY!!!!!! YOU HAVE MANY OF THE TORN ROTATOR CUFF SYMPTOMS. IF SO, IT WILL NOT HEAL ITSELF. THE SOONER YOU GET IT REPAIRED THE BETTER!!!! If you wait too long, the repair will take longer and may not be as good. You will be unhappy until you complete the surgery and therapy. BTDT I have had both repaired. If you want to talk to someone who has been there, email is open. We can exchange phone numbers.

I agree that a doctor visit is not necessary. BTDT First time I tore right rotator cuff it only took about a year until could use that arm to comb my hair. Then within 6 months tore left side, didn't need doctor then either. Haven't been able to wear a T shirt or any pullover shirt or coveralls in 25 years. Working overhead is basically impossible. But you are correct, no doctor necessary
