New to me tractor

This was delivered yesterday morning. First diesel tractor
on the place in 21 years. I played with it till the weather got hot (104 degrees). It appears to be a solid old tractor. Its the
first one I have had with a loader. Now I can load and haul
off a bunch of crap I thought I couldnt live without until
now. I can fill holes, reach heights I couldnt, and do other
things I havent even thought of yet.

When I applied for a State summer mowing job in 1976 I was required to test on a brand new 2640. Up till then all I has any experience with was a Farmall M or an old Minnie ZU. I remember the 2640 was light years ahead, and while I did fine on the test and got the job after a couple weeks running the 2640 I really started to hate having to use the old tractors when I went home!

No loader is complete without Forks.

John Deere forks are special to JD only.
I got mine from Titan with a brush guard.

Nice size loader and tractor, will come in very handy. My first and only tractor has a loader and it's saved my back on many occasions. You'll have a lot of uses for it. Gerrit

I had a 2440. I think it is the same tractor. Handy reliable tractor. Yours looks to have the 38 inch rears as did mine. Really sails down the road fast.

You guys think you have the cats meow with a loader, wait till you have a telehandler. That's the cats meow. You will invent things to do with one of them. You will wonder how you got along with just a loader. We use one to put round bales in the mow floor in the barn. From front to back up to the hip about 80-90 4x4 bales 4 bales wide and 8 bales deep Then as high as we can stack them. Usually about 4-5 high in the middle and start at 2 high on the first row, and end with 2 high.

I just picked up a Kubota MX5400 with the LA 1065 front loader, pallet forks and a hydraulic snow blade.
So far the pallet forks have seen the largest work out.
Next things on the list might be a set of extensions and a man station that can be raised with the forks.

So far I only have two complaints: The weather gets too hot too early for this old man to stay on the tractor, and the ground is so dry and hard I cannot begin to get it to dig in. I have had to find other things to do with it. :>)

No complaints about the tractor.

Can't get it to dig in? A loader tractor is not a bulldozer. A loader is meant to move already loose material, not dig holes.

Dont put it in ramming speed to dig with the loader. That can tear stuff up. However things to help with digging are a toothbar, loaded rear tires, rear wheel weights, and a heavy implement on the back. A loader shifts the weight forward off the rear tires resulting in tire spin pretty easily.

If you have a moldboard plow use that to loosen the ground for easier digging and easier spreading of the dirt with the loader. If it is too dry for the plow to work well, wait for better conditions.
