Saturday Tower

Bit of a different tower this morning but still strongly related to farming and agriculture. Norfolk has many magnificent churches said to be all built on the back of sheep. In the distant past, landowners ran large flocks of sheep and wool was an important commodity. The government passed laws that said every person must wear a wool cap and everyone must be buried in a wool shroud.

The rich landowners tried to secure their place in Heaven by building these beautiful buildings.

My ancestors came from this little fishing village in the 16 and 1700's and were christened and some buried in the churchyard

I'm always amazed at the skill of those stonemasons and their structures of hundreds even a thousand years old. Salisbury Cathedral comes to mind.
