Met a Fellow YTer today

Me and my oldest son Grayson had the opportunity to meet a fellow YT member Jim in NC today along with his better half, Mrs Joanne. Grayson had been looking for a trailer type 3 bottom breaking plow to use with his Farmall 300. In talking to Mr Jim on the phone over a period of time, he located what would work for Graysons needs, a John Deere model 55 H. He arranged to get it located to his and Mrs Joanne's home this week, and we arranged for today to all meet and pick it up. While there we also enjoyed they're great company, a great lunch, and of course we had to take time to look at the tractors to compare repair notes and also talk a little farming. Jim I and on behalf of Grayson, want to thank you and Mrs Joanne for yalls hospitality, and arranging to make 1 stop for everything. I feel like I have known you all of my life and consider both of you great friends. I wish I could encounter more people like both of you in my day to day activities.

Thank you CR and Grayson for the nice visit and fellowship. Miss Joanne and were honored to have you here. Reminiscing about growing tobacco and comparing our farming techniques in our respective areas of NC made our time together special. I am impressed by Grayson's desire to get into farming, especially considering how the economics of farming have changed over the last couple of years. I know he is anxious to get the plow cleaned up and get some green paint on it, but keep him focused on getting the baccer crop in and sold. Remember tobacco pays the bills! He's gonna have to be extra nice to his IH 300 so it will tolerate a green implement hitched to it! Miss Joanne and I both hope we can visit again.

To me that plow is the best he could possibly get. I had a 3-12 version and it was WAY better than the Oliver or M-H that I also had. The way they are made with that third full length beam and wider wheel spacing lets the plow start better inhard ground where a 3 bottom made as a 2 bottom with a third beam added that third bottom just will not penetrate hard ground. And he can have his tractor wheel tread set where he wants it for other jobs as against an Oliver that the plow dictates the tractor wheel tread width and is only suitable for a standard tread model tractor with a narrow wheel tread of about 60 while the Deere can be set easier for a tractor with a 76 wheel tread. Only problem is hard to find blacksmith sharpen shares and cost of them. I had all 3 of those model plows at same time so good compairson.

If you ever get the opportunity to meet them take advantage of it. They are true salt of the earth type of folks.

Ive know Jim since back in my ATF days and you know, I seem to remember Ms Joanne to be the better looking of the 2! Ha! Just kidding bud!
