Is 3 1/2 seasons enough life?

I think I got a good life out of this belt, on an L59 woods under a Farmall Super A.

It is if you mow a lot of weed trash with sticks and gum tree balls. Smooth lawn, not so good. On a side note, found my blade belt cracked almost clear through so I bought a two for much cheaper price from online. That was three years ago and I'm still running with that nearly broken belt.

I get more than 10 years out of my kevlar belts.

I'll post pic of how I keep the belt tight on my Farmall C's belly mower..

Can't remember how long the belt lasted on my RM660.

At least 10 years. I replaced it a year ago..

If you leave a mower outside, pulleys get wet, they rust and eat belts.. Also damages spindles.

The instructions for our woods 59 (not L59) indicate the belt needs to be very tight, not just tight but very tight. It claims the bearings can take it. When dad used to use our B with the 59 woods he was afraid to tighten the belt that tight and he went through a belt every couple years. The belt for the B might be a little different since it runs off the tractor belt pulley instead of the PTO. It has a 3/4 twist built into it. I think the belt gets too hot from slippage if it is not tight enough.

When the right sort of person came to my parts counter and said, "I need a belt." I might say, "Well, it's a bit early in the day, but I could use one too. Give me a coupla minutes to lock up and we'll go get one!"

We've got at least 12 years on the belt on our L59 on a Farmall C, and when I ran a stick in it it killed the engine and didn't break the belt! We did order one recently, the one in use is a little frayed. Ours used a B 225, ordered from Amazon $42 for a Goodyear, I think that's what's on it that lasted 12 years. But we probably don't put as many hours on it as you do. The uncut grass is getting to tall for the Woods on the Farmall, I'm using the JD 4600 with a 6 foot Bush Hog lately.

I agree, tighter the better. Used to have a B Allis with a Woods L59 belly mower. I used a small bottle jack on the big pulley to tension the belt before
tightening the pulley bolt. I found the tighter I ran it, the longer it lasted. Never had a bearing issue.
