What do you guys recommend as a carb cleaner to soak carb from 1650 oliver to help
clean and remove deposites . Would like to take it apart, let soak for a day or
two and then clean passages with air and fine torch tool or wire. Have new kit on

unk. Available at most auto parts stores.

Lots of chemical dip and soak products available at the auto supply.

You will find they have become expensive and weaker over the years.

Something that I have found that works just as well, and you may even have, is full strength Purple Power.

Boiling in vinegar is another method.

If it's been sitting with water in the bowl, some muriatic acid will dissolve the mineral deposits, but don't leave it in an aluminum carb very long, pour and rinse, repeat.

Then final spray with carb cleaner, blow dry.

Be sure to scrape out the jets and critical passages. I have yet to find anything that fully dissolves dried ethanol deposits. A torch tip cleaner works well, or a few strands of wire from a wire brush.

Thanks steve I have some purple power I sprayed the out side of carb with the purple power seemed to clean up pretty well. Plan one stripping carb down and soaking for a couple of days. Might try a couple cans of carb cleaner and leave it soak. Might try the vinegar first as I have a jug here.

Berrymans carb cleaner, most auto parts stores and walmart have it.Gallion can with a parts screen in it.

For an aerosol cleaner, the local NAPA stores can get Berkebile 2+2 cleaner. Nasty stuff, will melt good nitrile gloves on down!!

I soak in full strength PP, usually overnight, to get all the dirt, crud and paint off. Hot water rinse. I'll glass bead if they're rusty. I guess EvapoRust would be good but I never tried it on a carb. Chemtool B-12 to flush out passages.

MEK (methyl-ethyl-ketone) is available at any hardware store (in the paint thinner section) and will clean varnish deposits as well as just about anything.

Crock Pot from thrift store and Purple Power hs worked well for me. I let it simmer overnight. A poor man's hot tank. I have also used an old blue 'canner' pot and a hot plate for larger items, such as a Briggs and Stratton fuel tank. That also worked well.

Crock pot , dawn dish washing soap, little vinegar, and water. for me. have not tried any other recipes. Be careful with torch tools and wire.

(quoted from post at 10:54:23 07/14/22) Thanks for the comments and suggestions
f you clean carbs fairly often, you might want to invest $30 or $40 in an ultrasonic cleaner like the kind they use in jewelry stores. Laundry detergent and water will do a good job on the smaller pieces.

Berrymans used to work before peoples republic of California decided it was bad and had the good stuff removed. Not good for anything now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
