Farmall C valve guide a little loose in head

Since I had the engine torn apart on a Farmall C I thought I would go ahead and freshen up the head. During disassembly I found one valve guide that wants to move in and out slightly. There is no sideways movement. Aren't these valve guides driven in? How can I fix this? Could I puncture wound it with a center punch all over and drive it back in? Or what about sleeve locker? Thanks for your ideas.

Were it mine, I would puncture wound it all over the mating surface probably 1/8inch apart. I would put locktite stud and bearing mount on it and put it in place. Jim

If you want to fix it ''right'', check with an automotive machine shop, there MAY be an oversized O.D. guide available or it could be knurled.

Is it an exhaust or intake guide, if an intake there would be a vacuum leak and oil would be sucked down past the guide.

If an exhaust guide, exhaust could pass by into the engine.

Once the guide is replaced or Loctited in place the valve seat will need to be ground to make it perfectly concentric to the guide.

We you planning an a professional valve job, or just a bit of lapping?

I think thats a real good suggestions .

And do the pressure test to be sure the head good before I have them do anything else .

I alway have my shop put in steel seats , I also have have them put three angle grind for better breathing. Money well spent .

.

I would punch it lightly then locktite it in and go. Might lap the valve to make sure of the seat seal. Put some pencil marks on the seat and turn the valve when done and see if it wipes them all out if so it is good to g. If not then more work.
