Removing grease pencil from painted sheet metal

Would like to know a tried and successful method some of you have used to remove grease pencil (auction #) off a tractor grille. It has been on there for over a year. Trying to find a method that wont remove the original paint they wrote on. Thanks

My cleaner of last resort is Goof-Off. If nothing else works, Goof-Off will and (usually) doesn't damage the paint. It works best with a microfiber towel, which you can buy for cheap at any auto parts store.

My pet peeve..... Bought a couple nice cubs at auction last year. Auction stuck big stickers on them. Tried to very carefully remove, still pulled paint off ...... Grrrrrr

I've not tried it myself, but I've always heard peanut butter will remove stuck on labels without harming the paint. You could try it and let us know if it works.

Might try lightly rubbing it with a towel with a little acetone on it. Perhaps test it on inconspicuous spot first. Good luck.

I took a vinyl sticker off a newly painted surface and it left residue pretty bad so I tried the peanut butter thing and it worked for me.

Electric hair dryer and an old but soft towel.
Grease pencils are actually a semi hard wax.

But you might be dealing with paint stick marks. Those are more common especially for outdoor use on old painted or rusty stuff. You might have to rub them out via rubbing and/or polishing compound.
