James, when you restored your rake did you buy 10 of the $390.00 bar ends or did you figure out a way to replace the bearings in the original ends? If so how did you get them out?

Neither.

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the shield (Key 2).

Pure speculation on my part, but it might be [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]pressed[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] on the bearing assembly (Key 14).

Hope this helps.

Brg shaft & tapered brgs/races can be replaced by removing snap ring, drill a hole in bar end opposite the shaft so punch can be inserted in order to drive outer race, brgs & shaft out of housing. Then run a weld bead around inner race so it can can be removed. Install threads in drilled hole & insert a grease fitting.

Thanks Jim! that sounds like a good plan. Right now I am in the process of getting it apart. The castellated nut is rusted on well. I finished first cutting yesterday so now I can go at it. I got a new assembly in case the original got damaged in the process, and looking at it I see no snap ring holding the parts in the housing. It looks like sort of a cup that is pressed in. I will take another look.
