I hate birds

My 8700, they get in around the air intake pipe.

Every year I tell myself I need to make a shield, then I get busy, then I put the tractor away......

This year will be different...really

I had a JD 4020 this spring running poorly, a SMALL bird had made a nest INSIDE the air intake pre cleaner pipe. It was completely filled with sticks/twigs and a five egg nest at the top just under the pre cleaner cup.

I raised the hood on my 51 Case VAC yesterday and saw a nest where birds had hatched out and left.
And this tractor gets used quite a bit in the spring.
Now I know where my shop cat found the little birds it brought into the shop.
Couple of years ago, I found a big nest on the VAC manifold right near the gas tank.
And they love to build nests in the bottom of the fan shroud of my 41 JD H.

For 5 years now a Wren either uses her previous year's nest or builds a new one......in the top of one or the other of my roll around tool boxes. She lays 2 eggs and has 2 hatchlings who learn to fly from the rafters in my shop. She is fun to watch running along the horizontal wall sheating supports of my shop stopping and looking in every bend in the sheeting for spiders. They have a beautiful voice and sing lull-a-byes to me.

I dont have birds nests in my tractor, but I do have mice. During the winter they almost always make a nest in the engine compartment.

I think Id rather have the birds. Haha.

Yep, I'd taken it off to clean it out.

They're coming in through the top of the hood where the air intake pipe from the pre cleaner comes through.

I have Crow's, Barn Swallows and clack birds here, but thankful i got them, to eat the ants, they eat every morning!

(quoted from post at 12:41:10 06/21/22) I got to many barn cats to have a problem with birds or mice. Now wasp; that is a different story. I hate paper wasp.
ight on! I have never had pain/swelling/itching from bird contact. :(

I like birds! Well most of them. You should have a cat like mine. She weighs a whole 2.5 pounds! If she can get within 10 feet of a bird before she starts the run, that bird is a gonner! I swear she can jump 4 feet high! It's amazing to watch! I just feed her a little bit in the summer. If I feed her more I find dead birds that she won't eat and half eaten mice that I have to bury because she won't touch them again! Also, if she's hungry, she won't torture a mouse for hours! Get a cat!!!!

Same thing.

They built a nest in the pre cleaner, the whole pipe running down to the filter housing was filled with sticks.

My plan for that will be to remove the pre cleaner and put a coffee can on the pipe.
