Here's proof of my cheap oil change

Plus get 5th one is FREE.

So what's your point? Nobody questioned that.

Just don't expect it to be $39.99 forever, especially in this economy. If the price doesn't go up, I would question if they're actually doing anything besides resetting the oil life meter.

Someone did question the price. They wanted to know if it was
the current price. Here is proof..
I said I would post the price..

If I use Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filters I can do a 5qt oil change for under $30. The good cars get that. Mobil 1 Can be bought at Walmart for $25/5qts, and if I buy a couple jugs it's free shipping to the house. Buy Motorcraft filters on Amazon, our vehicles only use 2 different filters, bought a case (12) of each for a little over $3/filter.

If I use Harvest King (Rural King house brand) It comes in $10 less. The beaters and lawnmowers get that.

I can do a change in less time than it takes me to go somewhere and have it done.

A couple disclaimers...I have a lift, Makes it easy to do a tire rotation at the same time.
And with the chain hay baler, manure spreader, etc. I have plenty of uses for the old oil.

Thats the same price the Dodge dealership gives, then they give us 20% seniors discount. I know it gets people in the door. And its people that have $$ to spend on other services that they offer and this same group are a targeted market to sell new vehicles to. Armed with this knowledge, this is the best deal I can get, so I take advantage of it ,while it lasts

My car requires full synthetic.
The average price for 5 oil changes is $32 before tax.

I don't think I can buy good oil and delco PF47 filter for much less than $30.

I also want proof of service, The car's powertrain is still under warranty.

I think my dealer, which I've been doing business with starting in 2005, has cheap oil changes to get people in their shop to look for other things that need repaired.
I don't mind an extra set of eyes looking for something that needs repaired. The last thing I want is to have problems while I'm out of town.

Fix the small things and the big things will take care of themselves.

I questioned it.

Admittedly, I thought it was a dealer's price, but, nevertheless, the $39.99 price is quite a deal, dealer or otherwise, so long as the shop uses quality products and does not strip out the drain plug.

I certainly would not expect to be able to get 5 $39.99 oil changges in the future, in this climate.

Thats a good price for sure. As I posted before I actually enjoy changing my own oil but doing it myself that still costs around $33 for the 5 Qt pail of full synthetic plus a filter, so for parts and labor $43 is a great deal YOU DID GOOD.

Some time back I took a case to a full jury trial (per clients request) when my client went to big box store for an oil change, they drained her old oil and installed a filter BUT DIDNT PUT ANY OIL BACK IN and down the road a bit her engine locked up WE WON THE CASE

Yes. That is a pretty good deal but please keep in mind that even the ole Pop oil change and rotation shops on the corners have buying power. They buy drums of oil and cases of oil filters at a better price than us guys and gals. Thats where they get to offer you the good discounts and still make a decent profit margin. Good job. Wingnut

I think that is a great price. and you don't need to dispose/find a use for the used oil. They probably checked other fluids as well. PS I don't think I would have posted as much vehicle data in your picture. Jim

Being an urbanite at the time, I remember when 75 cents would get you enough gas for you to take your sweetie out on the town and run with the boys later to boot.

When we were 16 and one of us got the parents car Friday night we all chipped in a quarter and drove around the block all night for what gas that purchased...........Of course candy bars were a nickel then (10 cents for a mounds).........local theatre was 15 cents for kids quarter for adults popcorn nickel a sack dime a box..In HS I ran the projectors got $3.00 for a movie.. Earned a quarter a night helpjng neighbor on a rural paper route .....but most fun was helping put up hay at my Uncles FOR FREE but got a good meal Showin our ages lol

How often do they tell you it needs a 4 wheel brake job? Got a dealer group on my side of the state that does that to customers about every 18 months. When they bring it to me, never find a thing wrong. Most modern cars can go 60-100K on brake pads with easy driving. This same group also uses a white box oil filter on the cheap change. Have to buy the expensive change to get OE filters

I use Wal-Mart's SuperTech oil in my beaters. About $17 a jug for high mileage synthetic oil. More than good enough in my 1992 F250 5.8 engine.

Sullivan also offers 39.95 oil change. However I refuse to deal with Sullivan as their are prove liers. They claim they are 15 minutes south of Terre haute. Its 25 miles from their shop to Terre haute city limits. I offered to buy a new truck from them if they would drive me from their shop to terre haute not exceding the speed limit. They declined!!!!!!!!

I don't use the Delco oil filters anymore - they took a massive turn for cheapness about a year ago. They make the cheap Fran filters look good. The ones I use on my 5.3 went from a run of the mill oil filter (fine with 3000 mile oil changes) to a very cheap piece of light weight tin. The Super Tech filters looked very good in comparison.

Never have they told me I need something serviced that was not true.

Seem many people on YT have Trust issues.

I bought my Buick new in 2005.
GMC truck in 2007.
I got a better deal going to Indy when I bought the Cadillac new in 2018.

I've been treat exceptionally well at this dealer for past 17 years.

Sorry you haven't had good experiences other places.

Good deal. Before full synthetic the Chevy dealer charge that much and you got your car washed for free.

I only got my floor vacunned

I have been told by someone who worked in a shop, that the tech only made a few dollars for his time, and nothing for inspecting the vehicle. So, all that was done, was the oil change just to get rid of money losing job and try and get a higher paying flat rate job in his bay. I am not a fan of flat rate. Mark.

Wife took the car to the dealer for oil change, it needed cabin filter, air filter, engine gasket leaking, needed tires, brakes were in speck but showed wear really should consider.......

Think the dealer had a $2500 oil change in mind there.....

Trust issues? Nope, I know not to trust them.

Paul

Sounds like the dealer was needing some money.

One time I went to the Chevy dealer.
He said I had an antifreeze leak.

I asked him to show me.
He couldn't. I never used him again.

Trust and verify.

When I took mom's Chevy Trax in to fix an engine code last fall the dealer told me it needed front brakes. I planned on selling it that way.

Fast forward to now I'm glad I didn't sell it because my truck had another lifter seize here about 3 weeks ago and I would have had nothing to drive otherwise.

Took it into the neighborhood mechanic for inspection and front brakes. He just called. Brakes have plenty of meat on them.

Engine codes may or may not be reliable.
I had a code to check the oxygen sensor.
The mechanic left a vacuum hose off.

I'm not a mechanic. The dealer may have been scamming you. I'm saying I've never heard of a code to
indicate front brake pads need replaced. Has anyone else?

George, if you posted the sun will rise tomorrow morning in the east somebody would take issue with you lol. It makes for good entertainment I enjoy all the threads you start, keep em coming

I don't know how one can make money doing full synthetic oil changes for forty bucks. $32 if you factor in the free fifth oil change. Particularly when most cars these days take six quarts. As the saying goes, he loses money on every sale but makes it up in volume. I hope his loss leader is bringing in more profitable business, otherwise he won't be around for long.

It has been 19 years ago but we used the 20.00 oil change(tax included)as advertisement to get people in the door.We checked everything from lights, to pulling two wheels for a brake inspection. Newer cars and regular customers wern t checked as close, but oil, grease, windshield washer fluid and tire pressures were checked and topped off for everyone. If we found something that needed attention, we would take you to your car on the lift and show you what we found.
One of the funnest things was a guy that came in and priced a set of Michelins for his Lincoln. He left and came back about two hours later. As we were mounting them he told the story that he went to Sears and they beat our price. When he went to pay they had added valve stems, balancing, and disposal. They said the would match our price, but he made them remount his old tires and came back to us! If we gave you a price for anything, that is what you paid.(somethings I just couldn't give a price on, and I said so up front)

I just had an oil and filter change at the Ford dealer and was charged $90. That's for a 2011 F-150 with a 5L engine that takes 8 qts of oil. OUCH

You are correct, Mark. Flat rate is bad for the employee, and bad for the customer. It seems like it would be good for the customer because ease of quoting, but it leads to short cuts and unnecessary repairs so the mechanic can make a living.

In the case of this oil change special, the mechanic probably gets paid about .3 of an hour. That's right, 18 minutes. 18 minutes to pick up the order, find the car, rack the car, drain and fill oil, procure the parts, replace filter, do the inspect, fill out paper work, park car, and turn in the work order/keys. One would have to do 27 oil changes a day to break even on 8 hours if all they work is the lube rack. There is a reason every dealer now has a help wanted sign. Mechanics are getting out of the business in droves because their skills are useful in other industries that actually pay and have benefits.

(quoted from post at 17:54:25 06/09/22)[b:c1cac82bcf] Engine codes may or may not be reliable. [/b:c1cac82bcf]

They most certainly are reliable. Thing is though, you have to have a proper scan tool and know how to interpret what it is telling you.

Anyone who hauls off and replaces an 02 sensor based solely on an 02 sensor code read from a cheap code reader is taking a shot in the dark.
