Were really puzzeled why our old tractor wont start. It was fine up the time I parked it for the winter, after mowing fields.

1. It does not get spark to turn over.
a. I checked battery- It is fine, only few months old, cables good.
2.checked all connections, cleaning all.
3. Checked Starter: Its fine
4. Replaced solinoide: Re-attached exactly same as before
5. Replaced Starter switch: New
6. Replaced Starter button: New
7. Replaced Terminal Block: New
8. Replaced Spk plugs: New/plug wires good-2 yrs old
9. Checked Distributor OK/points ok
10. checked ground point: Cleaned connections.

All this and it still will not even turn over! :?
P.S. Engine is not siezed, will turn over by cross wiring the solinoide.

Any Ideas?
Getting desparate, field grass is now up to my sholders.

If re-wiring the whole shubang is in order, direction on corect gauges to use would be helpful. Cant tell exactly with the old
wires still in place.

Try this. Use a jump wire from the small terminal on the solenoid to the ground side of the battery. If it turns over then the wire from the starter button to the solenoid is bad or you have a bad connecting at the button it self.

olds's comment is on track. the starter button probably is not being grounded if it has 2 wires, one must attach to the starter relay (solenoid)
and the other to ground. If only one wire, the switch needs to be grounded. The neutral safety switch may also have failed! Jim

Maybe youve got a solenoid that is energized by supplying 12 volts to the start terminal, like a car or truck would use and you need the tractor type that is
energized by supplying a ground (via the safety switch button on the trans cover) to that same terminal.

Take a test lead and clip it to that terminal and then touch the other end to the grounded lug on the battery. If it does nothing, try touching the end of that
lead to the battery's other lug.

Thank you for the suggestion, we will look into that. We have replaced the starter, but did not replace the wire. It will be a good place to start.
