Bought a couple this past month. When they look good and run good, and are cheap, we can't help it.

Paid less for all 4 than a new one cost!

I brought a 1990 don't remember the series it did not have shaft drive. I fought the belt drive system and hydraulic transmission till I could not handle it anymore. I traded it in on a 1998 its been a good mower other than it rusting away from the inside. Its on its second set of fenders I have about patched as much as I can on the last set. Rust will be its demise. I know the 98 is a MTD : (

I had a 1960 cub cadet 100. Had a 10 hp kohler. Rebuilt the engine. I always had spindle problems. PTO clutch problems and the biggest problem was the starter generator didn't last but a few years..

I sold mine for $100.

It had a 3 speed transmission. A solid pulling tractor.
However, the first gear was too slow for mowing and the second gear was too fast..
There were 3 blades. They were too short to do a good job cutting tough grass. More like wiped the grass.

Geo,
If it was a CC100 it was a bit newer as a 1963/4 or 5.

The starter generator would last mucho longer with a piece of hand bendable aluminum sheet installed between it and the engine as a heat shield.

Something IH failed to fix for the next twenty years of future units.
