In the shop is a New Idea Big Horn loader with 2;stage cylinders. Where can information be found on how they are put together and how to rebuild them. It appears the ends screw off. One of the ends has a set screw in it. Thanks for any information.

2 stage cylinders or double acting? Two stage is also called telescoping, there is an inner and outer ram section and gives more extension in a shorter cylinder. Many forklift masts and dump truck/trailers with one ram at the front of the body use multiple stage cylinders. Double acting is common on loaders. A one section ram/rod with the barrel ported so that oil applied at either end to power extension or retraction of the ram.

Some pictures might help get info.

New Idea is an AGCO brand.

From what I see in the pictures I would say the glands screw off so the rods can be pulled out. You say one has a set screw. I am guessing it might be in the top gland and that set screw locks it to the first stage rod so that it doesn't unscrew if the first stage rod rotates as it cycles.
