hi, i baught a ford 8n a month ago and everything seemed to work fine. i just got my first attachment a jd brush hog a week ago. when i go to adjust hight with the control lever i cant get a few inches lift it just wants to shoot up or go all the way down. there is no control at the lower half of the lever when there is weight on the 3pt. either there is something i'm missing or something is broken please help.

Do you have the draft/position control in the up position or is it down. Down is draft and up is position

it starts moving about halfway up the lever and continues floating up, but wont go down until brushhog reaches 2/3 up and lever is down. without weight of the brushhog it acts normal.

Who was the YT fellow that had a way to adjust the old Fords hydraulics. I can't remember his name. He made a tool to adjust the 3 pt. Zane??
Is he still around?

Not sure I quite understand you dilemma, but you might try raising the implement then start to lower it, as it's coming down pull back slowly on the control lever until it stops going down. There should be a position where the downward motion is arrested. It should hold that height until you move the lever again or until the internal cylinder leaks out of fluid. If you can find the sweet spot and it's holding for only a few minutes or so, then you could have an issue with your internal hydraulics. I have a Fergusen TO-30 and it only has draft control -not position control. As I understand it only the very late model N series had both (don't quote me on that though). Draft control only limits downward motion. Or at least that's how I understand it. So if you want to raise the implement you have raise it then stop it in the downward travel. Anyway, hope you figure it out, and welcome to the forum. Lot's of knowledgeable people on here and, well, a few not so much, like myself.

are you talking about the inlet control valve? also thinking of flushing out the trans hydraulic system as the fluid looks milky.

if i start raising it, it wont stop raising. when i go to lower it, it wont lower until the lever is 2/3 down then
it just drops the bush hog straight to the ground. with no weight on 3 pt i have all the control i need i can
raise/lower precisely. i can even stand on the 3pt (280lb) after i get it to where i want it and it wont bleed down
or raise up.

Short lever under seat on right side needs to be in horizontal position for draft control if you really have an 8n. Lever pointed up for position control.
