I've heard stories of fellows who lost their privilege to drive automobiles then thought a farm tractor would allow them
transportation. Some it worked some not so much. gobble

In Michigan you can get a DUI driving a boat. A friend got his second DUI while riding a bicycle. I assume you could get one while operating a tractor on the road.

Old farmer I bought my H from used the H one time to go back to his local tavern. His wife was mad at him and tossed his keys to his truck in the yard somewhere so he just took the H. He only had about a half mile to go but it was down a real steep hill. For you guys in the south end of Cayuga county NY it was the Genoa hotel he was going back to.

Got to be carefull about what you drive on
public roadways this day and age. You can
get a DUI driving pretty much anything on
public roadways. It sure doesn't have to be
a tagged automobile.

I've heard of stranger stories. Lawnmowers,
bicycles, even riding a horse.

Best thing to do, is just stay off of
roadways if you've been drinking. Because
the law is gonna be out to get you, no
matter what your driving.

Have heard stories about the law even
bothering people on private property.
Guessing this only happens when the cops
are called. Somebody not on thier own
property, or spouce called the cops.
Instances like that.

I have been known to take a whole cooler
full of beer to the field with me. Of
course, I knew I wouldn't be leaving my own
place. But I don't do that now, that I have
quit drinking.

There was a guy near here that had lost his driver's licinece and for many6 years drove his Allis C to the local bar... every day, no matter
what the weather. YOu'd see him out in a blizzard in his coveralls. I doubt he came home sober.

Similar story here back 50-60 years ago but the tractor was a Farmall H. He was the father of one of my classmates in grade school.

The son of one of the farmers in my township got a DUI while riding a horse many years ago (1990).

About that same time (1990), a guy in town got a DUI on a bicycle. He had gotten several over the years. So the cops had his number (if you will). And didn't seem to have any remorse for the guy, even though he had reduced himself to only riding a bicycle. Kind of a result of the cops just picking on somebody (the bicycle part), if you ask me.

Not sure if that one actually stuck in court or not. Probably did, if I had to guess. By that time, he had no hopes of getting a driver's license back. Had nothing to fight for in court, other than the charge itself. And was likely through with hiring a descent lawyer for his defense.

Ten years ago a Vermont farmer took issue with a marijuana charge and drove a tractor 70 miles to the sheriff's barracks and crushed all seven of their cruisers. They called local and state police and border patrol to go after him. He didn't get too far.

I forget which garden tractor site it was but we discussed various guys getting stopped on their garden
tractors going to or from the local tavern. Then somebody said he had a neighbor who was lawn mowing his
roadbank with a beer in his hand when the Sheriff went by and stopped. YEP, a DUI against his license.
I used to drink a 12 pak while mowing with one of my garden tractors, and mowed some roadbank, but tried
not to hold a beer while mowing those areas. Now with the zero turn with steering levers I have no free hand,
plus I prefer Mike's Hard Lemonade anyhow.
And speaking of getting a ticket on a lawn mower, was on one of the Deere sites, guy got a ticket for
improper safety emblems and lights for NOT having an SMV emblem on his toy tractor, they all came with one, he
must have taken it off. My zero turn didn't have one but I'm slowly making making one to hang off the ROPS. I
mow about 500-600 feet of roadbank and I really don't want to irritate a local law enforcement official.

Many people think that they own to the edge of the pavement, but a road bank is almost always owned by the state, county, or municipality. Thus it is part of the public way, so one needs to use judgement about how they drive on it.

In Texas the game wardens routinely can and do stop any boat and do a safety equipment check, no reason needed.

If there is any suspicion of the driver drinking, they have to go to shore and do the field sobriety test, followed with a blood sample, a huge fine, and jail!

They also 'can' (and probably will) invoke zero tolerance on any trace of drugs found in the boat, which means the boat and contents are confiscated!

Knew an old man that did that for years!

He worked for his nephew that owned a dairy. He would drive the old Ford tractor with a loader, no lights,
about 5 miles of winding lake side road to the nearest beer joint. Every evening, weather didn't matter,
he'd leave before dark, but not come home until closing time.

Did it for years, never heard of him getting stopped or in a wreck. Amazing he didn't get hit from behind
with no lights!

Oh, and this was a crusty old coot, he was known as 'Mean Ol' Man'! The bar he went to was the local long
hair hippy type loud rock and roll pot head hang out! I was too young to drink then but I suspect there were
some interesting moments there! LOL

Impaired driving charges include care and control of a
automobile while under the influence of drugs or
alcohol. Years ago some fellas would get all gassed up
at a dance or a party, and just spend the night
sleeping in their car. But the law would come along
and tap on the window. 90% of the time the fella
would have his keys in the ignition. Often to have the
radio playing. If the keys are in the ignition, and the
driver is a sleep, and drunk, while parked and the car
not running, they still get charged with impaired
driving. So after word got around on this, guys now
just lift the hood, and put the keys in the engine
compartment. Cops cant search your vehicle looking
for your keys, but if you have them in your pocket
even, they will try to press charges. The whole idea
about this is , and has been argued in court. That after
a drunk sleeps it off for a few hours in his car, then
wakes up and drives home, he is probably still too
intoxicated to be driving, But if you have no ignition
keys, you are just a drunk a sleep in a car.

Not long ago a guy in my little town got a duii on a mower. They even towed it to the impound lot. The police warned him over and over again and gave him several chances but he would still go and do it again. So he got what was coming. Can't say the police didn't give him a chance! Dumb part is that my town is small enough to walk most anywhere.

Surprised about the impaired , over 80mg or DUI on a bicycle with us not a motor vehicle .

A friend is part time on the state Marine Patrol. What he does mostly is stop guys that are going too fast. He wants to just give them a warning so that he doesn't get tied up with writing a summons or having to go to court which is very inconvenient for him. However, a lot of the time they get arrogant and don't want to cooperate, and it becomes apparent that they have probably been drinking. Then he asks for their license, and because of the poor attitude he calls it in. Then half the time it comes back that they have outstanding warrants, so now he has to arrest them which gets to be dicey being in a boat and alone, so he has to call for back-up. So it makes for a long day and then having to appear in court messes up his regular job, all because these jerks can't handle their liquor.

A guy in my cousins town lost his license,
then his car, then his tractor. Then he
got some sort of ticket on a horse, but
not a drunk driving. So then he got a
buggy and left the reigns at the bar
because the horse knew the way home. He
passed away shortly after that.

Didn't George Jones get nailed on a lawnmower? I think his wife took the car keys away, and he said,OK,I'll go mow
the lawn. Then he headed for the liquor store or a bar,I disremember which one.

There's an old joke about just that.It takes 5 minutes to walk to the bar,but 35 minutes to walk home. The difference is staggering.
