Guys need help

Have a Wisconsin VH4D. Rebuilt carburetor and was running great. Was showing neighbor how great it was running and cranked it up and I forget to put carter key in throttle rod and it went wide open. I immediately shut it off but when I went to crank it up again it would not crank. It would try to fire off some but would not crank. After a while it would not hit at all. I checked the fire and it seemed weak(looked orange) This model has a magnita. Checked compression and had 90psi on 2 and 75psi on 2. Took plugs out and put oil in spark plug hole and it tried to crank again but would not. My main concern is the compression. Could not find anything to reference it by. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello cents welcome to YT! I doubt you have hurt you
engine. If the engine has had quite a bit of use it is no
surprise that the compression readings vary that
much, that is not what is keeping your engine from
running. We will start with at least one easy thing to
check. Are you sure it has plenty of gas in the tank.
You are looking to blame the over speed event and
your focus may have been pulled away from something
as simple as that. If that is not your trouble I would
suggest giving the points in the mag a check and file
them a bit if you have a thin file. Or now you will see
some guys reply that this just will not work; but
burnish the point contacts with a little emery paper.
Just make sure when you are done to run a strip of
cardboard like from a cereal box through them. Pull it
through both ways so the not slick side rubs against
each contact. Then check your spark again hopefully it
is better after that little process.

Thanks for replying. I just filled it up with gas and my next thing I was going to check was the points and condenser. My biggest fear was something internal

Does the magneto still click- click when you crank it?
If no.......Check the impulse coupling.
Could have stretched the springs when overrevved.

It is difficult to understand what you have going on. What does "crank" mean to you? Rotating the motor to start it? or having it running?

The magneto is kinda hard to get too but I am going to try to take the distributor cap off today and look inside. I will certainly check that.

Pardon my southern slang but I mean it is on the verge of running but it can't catch up. It is turning over

In the excitement of showing your neighbor, did you
remember to open the fuel valve? Im not being snotty- I have
forgotten to open it many times. Its surprising how long the
engine will run on just the gas in the bowl. Dave

I have sprayed gas in the carburetor and into the cylinders and no luck
