FH Gas or Kerosene Head

Hello,
I am in the process of rebuilding farmall h motor. I am replacing all of the sleeves and pistons. I found a new kerosene set, but I have a replacement gas head. I have all of the other kerosene parts, just not the head. Does the gas head run kerosene? Do I [i:86e0c186ee]need[/i:86e0c186ee] a kerosene head? Does anyone have one ai can purchase?

Do you have all the sleeves out yet? If not try borrowing the correct dia puck from your
friendly IH mech.

The gas head burns only gas. The kerosene
head burns both, one at a time. Gas when
cold or hot, and kerosene only when hot.

The two heads are built different. The
difference being, the recessed area above
the pistons. Where your valves are, and
spark plug is when screwed into the head.
This recessed area above the pistons will
be more on a kerosene head. I think the
valve stems are even shorter because of
this.

If you have seen the two before, and made a
mental note of the difference in recessed
area, you could probably tell the
difference just by that. But if not, you
are going to have to go solely by the
casting numbers.

You gonna need a kero head, to go with
those new kero pistons. You brought on that
headache yourself, when you bought kero
pistons.

The gas head will run kerosene, BUT it will ping and
knock so bad you will not want to run it like that. So in
affect NO, a gas head even with flat top pistons will not
have a low enough compression. Did you web search
IH 8766 head? I did and I see one one eBay for about
$500, probably at least another $100 to ship it.
