John Deere 4020

I was at a retired dairy the other day and there was a 4020 with a loader sitting there needing some TLC. It got me wondering how many
hours of work 4020's have done across the country? It has to be a huge number. 4020 with a Powershift was my first experience driving a
big tractor as a 15 year old. That was a proud day for me; boss was plowing and I was discing. I wonder what will happen to that
tractor when the owners move off in six weeks? Hope it finds a home and keeps working.

Just under 185,000 built and probably 10,000 hours per tractor on average. I'd love to have a dollar for every hour worked by a 4020.

I do not think you have to worry about a JD 4020 not finding a new owner. They are still fairly sought after tractors. A recent auction result report by another YT poster of a sale in SE KS showed a non running 68 PS sold for $5100. There was some indication that something had been done with it recently because it had a set of newer style steps on it, the type with the grab bar. If that tractor is offered for sale and the word is spread much at all it will sell.

I started farming with a 4010 that had a complete 4020 engine. Second year I bought a high hour 4020 and it was overhauled with a M&W engine kit and had the fuel really turned up. It was my big tractor for many years. It might have 25,000 hours on it. I also have another 4020 with 6100 2 owner hours. I spent most of this week on one of the two. Tom

Looks like you're making progress, glad to see those great machines doing the job, I got to start out on a 4320, synchro, 20.8-34 rears.
Had the Deere cab on it, rollbars inside.
Only thing I miss on that is the strong clutch.
It had a 158 loader on it. Furthest reach in our town, at the time! GG, Wes

Still have the '65 4020ps I bought for my first tractor. It had 3,000 hours on it when I got it, overhauled it at 17 wouldn't start below 70 without ether. It has a little over 20 now and even tho it needs cosmetic stuff internals are pristine. I can wrench, painting is something I haven't been able to master. Use it all the time. But as much as some folks on here love to drive their 4020's I'd rather be in my 4455 or 7820.
